IMHO ... and many others who have watched it already .....

.. the funny thing of course is that its an episode which stands alone, i.e. it really dosn't have much to do with the overall Doctor Who story ... its more like a Twilight Zone story ....

.. its written by the guy that wrote Coupling ... and it really is a keeper.

Just a heads up !!!!

I second the recommendation. So many times you hear about how scary Doctor Who is, about children hiding behind the sofa, etc. Well, this is the first Who I've seen that really delivers on that score. I'm not ashamed to say I screamed at one point. :D

Steven Moffat is a god.

I didn't even know Doctor Who was airing on Sci-Fi - I just started watching it on BBC-America.

So - where does tonite's episode on Scit Fi ("Blink") fit into what I'm watching on BBC-America?

We're only up to the second episode with David Tennant...

(and OK if Blink is the second episode and I watched it already - oooops in advance - I already deleted it.)

SciFi is showing the third season, BBCA the second. (I have already seen the second season so I am only watching Torchwood on BBCA right now.)

If you are currently on BBCA, then you are about 2 seasons behind SCI-FI.

I liked it but I can't say "Best" - can't say it wasn't either.

Fantastic episode. I'm making my wife watch it when she gets home. Everytime she's sat down to watch an episode with me it's not been one of the better ones (for example the last one she watched was the Christmas Episode leading into Season 3 - a little cheesy), so she doesn't get why I like it - this should change her mind.

Wow....

I own all of Coupling on DVD, and the previous Doctor Who eps that were done by Steven Moffat are some of my favorites as well. I hadn't heard of Jekyll before, but I just added it to the top of my Netflix Queue.

Great episode. I think it was one of the best Doctor Who's so far. At first I though it was a stand alone episode without the doctor and Martha but I was wrong. They were in the past. Very creepy.

I saw this episode when it originally aired... and it was a joy to watch it again.. it really is one of the best of this last season.

Sally Sparrow is great... too bad she didn't make it to companion status.. she was my top choice :(

It kind of was. They do one of these each year, where the Doctor has a minimal role (usually on a TV screen), to "buy" time in the schedule for the Christmas Special.

I just watched, and I concur, brilliant, absofreekinlutely brilliant. They ripped off about every time travel thing they could, and then MADE THEM WORK!

The letter, totally BTTF2, but perfect, and the DVD "eastereggs" that were her conversations that hadn't yet happened, paradoxical to the max, and they kept going, then Sally giving him the file folder.

wow.. simply wow, Moffat is "da man" for me, with Coupling, Dr Who, and now Jekyll, I'm at the point if I see his name attached, I might as well just buy it.

I don't think I blinked once in 43 minutes... and then it was over and my heart was beating a mile a minute.

wow....

I watched this earlier in the year via a torrent. I'm glad I re-watched or I'd have missed the commercials. I was cooking while watching so I didn't leap on the TiVo remote. I think it was the first or second commercial break that I saw. I got a kick out of seeing an episode about killer weeping angels being sponsored by the United Methodist Church

And I agree: Anything by Steven Moffat, I'm watching.

Awesome awesome ep (and another huge Moffat fan, here - I have all of Coupling on DVD, even the lousy eps at the end of the series, when they tried to bring in Replacement Jeff).

However, all through it, I just got the weirdest feeling that I'd seen it *before*. I don't know why - but it just all seemed very familiar.

I loved it, though.

I really wish we could see more of Sally Sparrow - I'm not a huge Martha fan, and Sally'd make a great companion. :)

And an easy episode to hook with since it's not heavy on the Doctor and works well as a stand alone.

I don't know. It was a good episode, but it didn't really get into the Doctor that much - I could see it as a second ep to show.

I would love to see Sally Sparrow as a companion. She was great and very quick thinking about the stuff that happened. And somewhat accepting of it. Open minded.

Nope. I've never downloaded a TV show. That's why it's so weird. I don't know if I saw something on a 'making of' or 'behind the scenes' type show, or what - but I just KNOW I saw the moving statute thing before.

My only question on this one is, though - why not put a big mirror in front of each statute? Wouldn't that have worked a whole lot better?

The only nitpick I would have (and this is from a "comic-book guy" point of view) is that you wouldn't find the Tardis impounded in the police warehouse in present-day London. The Torchwood people would have found it and taken it as soon as possible. It's been well-established they know what the Doctor's Tardis is and that they want it to study.

Sherminator

But this was after "The Battle Of Canary Wharf", and Torchwood is now just a two bit outfit working out the back of a shop in Cardiff.

My wife and I were both captivated. I was waiting to see slowing moving statues like horrible mimes. Changing statues was much scarier.

I had decided I really like the cop, was hoping that he could hook up with Sally. When he said 'It was raining the day we met'. then she said 'It is the same rain'

Wow.. Really cool. Now will we have an episode with the bow and arrows?

Nice try, but I can only close one of my eyes (the left one) one at a time.

As soon as the right eye started to dry out, I'd be in big trouble.

Agreed... excellent ep. I almost instantly wondered who did the episode, since it looked NOTHING like other Dr's.

I loved the way the handled the weeping angels. Rather than have some actors caked in mud and miming, they used real statues... Never actually seeing the things moved made them all that freaky. I have to admit, the scene where the dude was tasked to stare while Sally looked around... when he looked away for a brief instant and turned to see it within inches of his face... the hair on my arm stood up.

... that hasn't happened since I was a kid...

But... a pyschological thriller at its best. With some tweaking, hell... this could have made for one hell of a feature length movie. I'm a bit disappointed that it wasn't.

Yes, I believe it was the Confidential for this episode - and as I recall, the statues were actual actors.

Also, TV.com has this:
The make up and costumes for the Weeping Angels included polystyrene wings, latex arms and facial pieces. The whole ensemble took three hours to apply.

I have been so thrilled with this season of Doctor Who: it just keeps getting better and better. Human Nature was good, Family of Blood was great, and now Blink was fantastic. I might try convincing my wife to watch this episode to get her into the show. I agree with everyone else who said it would make for a good introduction. She's not much for scary shows, though. She did very much like Jekyll, though, which we just finished watching last week.

By the end of the episode I had developed a new fear of statues - I fear I have never before even considered. I think I'll be looking closely at statues for a while. Then, just after finishing the episode, I played a little BioShock on XBOX 360 and (mild BioShock spoilers)...

It just so happened that the part of BioShock I picked up at was Fort Frolic, which features splicer "statues" that come to life and attack you when your back is turned, but which are frozen when you are looking at them.

I then proceeded to have a restless night's sleep.

It was good but flawed. I really disliked the montage at the end and felt it greatly detracted from the episode. I also wasn't a big fan of the paradox introduced at the end, but at least they can explain it with the "jumbly wumbly timey wimey" retort.

Otherwise it was a strong episode.

Unless you have someone else with you. Doesn't seem that difficult to me. At the end they just left the four statues there. What if an earthquake happens and one of them tips over? Seems borderline negligent to leave those creatures alive.

Last night my local (Washington, DC) newscast ran a story about this hotel that had a bunch of statues of Venus (the goddess, not the planet) out front. One of them is missing. The interesting this is, they were all in a line, and the heads are all cocked to the same direction, so that apart from the one on the left-end of the line, each statue is being "looked at" by another.

It was the statue on the left--the one not being stared at--that had disappeared.

In light of this episode, I found that news story to be very, very disturbing.

My boss's entire house was demolished by a tornado. I'm pretty sure one could knock over a statue in a basement. And more importantly, if someone ever decided to actually go into the basement, they might decide to move a statue, not knowing they are evil statues from outer space.

'Proper' tornados are as rare in Britain as 'proper' earthquakes.

But dropped from the final version was a scene in which Larry said to the Doctor "I check those statues twice a week. They're frozen- they're never gonna move again".

(although I also seem to remember the current Doctor one said "never say never ever")
