There are now 2 shows on Showtime I'm interested in watching, and that makes the subscription price worth it to me. I don't need to be spending more money on cable, but these shows are good, dammit. :o
They're Dexter and Californication, BTW. I almost went with "Unboxing" Dexter to my TiVo, but it's not available to download, just watching on the computer.
Californication isn't available for (legal) download at all yet.

Dexter is worth the price of the subscription by itself. Excellent show.

I wish Showtime would open their Unbox stuff to TiVo, not just computer. Wonder what they're afraid of?
Peter000
09-11-2007, 09:07 AM
They're afraid of people downloading it and burning it to DVDs so they won't have to buy their season sets later on.
I have no idea really. I wrote to them to suggest that they allow it to be downloaded to TiVo. Maybe it's a separate contract TiVo has with the networks that allows this?

IIRC HBO and SHO are owned by the same company. They are now forcing us to subscribe to Showtime in addition to HBO. :p

Dexter is great and Weeds is hilarious. But I'm a little worried about subscribing to Showtime because every time I do all the shows I like get cancelled within a couple months. :)

HBO is owned by Time-Warner, and Showtime by CBS.
I think Cinemax is part of HBO, which might be what you're thinking of...

Peter, do what I do. I play the specials game with them. Call up the cable company ask them what specials they're running. Sign up for whatever it is. Cancel on the last day. Call next day and ask for specials. That's how I do it, and I dont' even have to flash them. :D

I tried that, and I JUST missed a three month free Showtime special from last month. :(
Another poster PMmed me about a 6.95/month special he saw advertised on Showtime, but the cable co. didn't have any idea what I was talking about.

Just to clarify, I saw that ad on DirecTV's 101 channel just before the airing of Dexter on there last night (I don't currently get Showtime - may need to give it some serious thought, though! :)).
Didn't pay too much attention, but it was advertising Showtime for $6.95 a month for three months and to call 1-800-SHOWTIME for details. I haven't called yet, so I don't know if the offer is only for people who have never subscribed to Showtime, have not subbed for x number of months, requires you sub for x months or any details. Waiting till I have some real time to kill before I call.

I just discovered Dexter a couple of days ago, I like it. I am currently watching them via On- demand.
Scarry, but I can relate to the Dexter character (no, I don't kill things). I always feel I am on the outside of most events looking in.

I got 2 months. They said I was ineligible for the 6.95 a month for 3 months offer that is on showtime's website and in the ad at the beginning of dexter on 101.

last season i watched dexter on my computer (downloaded shows). this year i got showtime to watch big brother after dark (which isnt the best, specially now with 4 people left). i'm going to keep showtime for dexter and californication. amazing shows, dexter was definitely in my top 3 last season and i can wait for it to start again!

Though I've fallen behind on Californication, I am liking the show a lot. It alone is worth the subscription to Showtime for me, though my wife has also been a big fan of Big Brother after dark.
As others have said here, HBO has slipped considerably and Showtime is putting pressure on them with quality programming.

you're all talking about shows...but what about movies? I never go to the movies so I watch "new" movies on the premium channels...I don't mind waiting 2 years to watch a good movie as long as I don't have to leave the house :o :)

I don't like weeds from the little I've seen of it, but I might change my opinion if I watched from the start. I thought the tudors and the l word were pretty terrible.

They should rename Californication to Caliboring. The last few episodes are so blah. At least Dexter comes back on Sunday.

I subscribe to the Movies package which includes Showtime, Starz, TMC and Encore. We get every subchannel of those too. There's ALWAYS a good movie on to watch...and it only costs $12 extra per month. I can't believe the HBO/Cinemax package is TWICE that and NEVER has a good movie on.

I am currently staying in a Sheraton hotel they have Dexter S2E1 on-demand. No spoilers, of course, but it was as good as any episode as season 1, It should have been season1 episode13 (last seasons finale).

Oh wow! Now I REALLY can't wait! This is such an incredible show. If I didn't get Showtime I would subscribe just for Dexter and The L Word.
I watched Season 1 twice (I highly recommend that!). Even though I knew a lot of things that were going to happen, I caught some other things that I had missed the first time around.
