I know when your watch a show, you can hit fast forward and make it jump up 15min. However is there away to get it do that if your running back?

Hit Rewind, then Advance. Same thing, just Rewind instead of Fast-Forward.

how far into the show are you? Are you sure you're in rewind before you hit the skip button?

I am half in to a 2 hour show or more. Have tired at all times. Yes I am SURE I am rewinding

What tivo do you have? I think some of them do as you describe, OP. At least that's been my experience with the dozen or so I've owned.

IIRC, rewind -> replay takes you straight to the beginning. Make sure you are doing rewind -> skip. And you have to be in rewind3 before this will work.

This works in all three rewind speeds. You want to be using the skip button which looks like this ->| and is underneath the fast forward button.
I've had some trouble trying to use this trick in a few of the shows I've transferred from my PC, other than that it works pretty flawlessly for me (even works with DVDs since I have a combo unit).

... And you have to be in rewind3 before this will work.Negative...as posted above...I tried it at all three speeds and it does, indeed, take you back at tick intervals. I wasn't aware of that, and I've been TiVo-ing for four years.

never heard of a 15 minute skip, only 30 second skip. How is this done?

OP used the wrong wording.
Should have been "skip to tick", those little white divisions of the progress bar.

Thanks guys! :o No telling how many button presses I've wasted and never thought to try it the other ways.

On my units, the skip to tick does not seem to work if I have the 30 second skip enabled. If I disable 30 second, the skip to tick ability comes back.

The skip to tick does work with 30s skip enabled. You have to be in a FF or Rew mode for it to work. In realtime play the advance button does the 30s skip. With 30s skip disabled, the advance button advances to the end of the program or back to the beginning if already at the end.

Skip to tick doesn't work in live TV mode, IIRC.. (at least on my S3 and S1s..)
The only time I buffer live TV (..with any care whatsoever to avoid changing channels..) is when I leave CNN on. Sometimes I want to go back a while, and can't.

True, that it doesn't work with live buffering.
But, this thread is talking about watching recordings.
