As near as I can tell, on the early (first) broadcast of Dead Zone tonight, they repeated one segment and skipped another. I'm recording the second showing later tonight, in hope that they get it right.

Thanks for the heads up on that, Rob.

Do we discuss the show in this thread? It has the show and date in teh title...
I thought it was a good episode. I liked what they are doing with the Walt flashbacks, and following that storyline instead of just the FotW type plot.

Discussing the show in this thread would be evil, since the whole point is that we haven't been able to watch all of it yet...

Man, USA's really screwed up their shows as of late. There was a week or two where none of their programs had anything but the generic guide data.

Did they get it right on the second showing? I'm set up to get the midnight (cst) showing. I hope it's ok.

Maybe, but it does meet the requirements. :D

This was the episode titled "Ambush" correct?
Dead Zone is one program I have no idea when it originally airs or which airing I actually record into the TiVo.
Looking at my ToDo list, I see some recording Sunday evenings, some early Monday mornings, more in the middle of the night Tuesdays or Wednesdays.
The "Ambush" I recorded was 8pm MDT Sunday evening, was this the "first" airing?
I'm picking up the late Tuesday airing of "Ambush" just to make sure.

The second showing was OK.
The 9:00 Central was the bad one, so Phox, you will need another showing.

Well, it's not like they don't have episodes where the same scene repeats over and over. ;)

oh oh. I guess I need to search for this one and hope it repeats.

It is on again Wednesday morning at 1am EST. At least it is here.

I thought that there was a thread here saying that no one was left watching Dead Zone anymore. Were there some who do watch but didn't respond? I have deleted the SP for Flash Gordon, but I still have this one.
At the end, we got to see some flashbacks to the old plotline. That was a bit refreshing. Sarah cannot be gone, especially not gone to Stillson--I FORBID IT! She's gonna freak when she fins out about her son.
I'm beginning to like this sheriff. I'm glad she wasn't killed, which is kinda what I was expecting.
I really loved the Abe Lincoln line. And Johnny reminding her of when she didn't want his help.
Yeah, the first showing was flawed. The second act was replayed after the act 2 to act 3 commercial break. They fixed it for the second, and I assume all future, showings.

Forgot to add:
I get a smile on my face when a major network has a mess up like this.
Just a small local station here.
Once upon a time we aired the first segment of Oprah twice,
aired the last segment of Entertainment Tonight before the first segment,
aired a week old CBS Evening News for about 30 seconds before switching to the correct one,
to name a few miscues.
Both Oprah and ET were middle of the night re-airings so no one noticed, and the person responsible for the CBS Evening News mis-air was quite quick on the hotpunch finger, only got one call on that one.

Hi all,
I didn't really absorb what Rob said when I read the beginning of this thread yesterday. I tried watching the first airing of "Ambush" and realized that something was out of whack and remembered Rob's topic.
Here's where it gets weird!
I decided to re-record another showing and the moment I choose the record-this-episode-also (sorry, can't remember what it's really called) button, my DirecTiVo reboots. I tried again a few moments later and it did it again.
I'm trying a torrent of the episode as I type this.
I don't think I've ever seen DirecTiVo behavior like that before.

Dammit I'll have to record another showing of this. Thanks Rob.

When your TiVo came to, did it start having strange visions of the future?

Not that I'm aware of. Stuff like that is never immediately obvious though. My TiVo probably doesn't even realize it yet. :)
Of course, even if it does develope this ability, it's probably against some silly rule in some TV executive handbook somewhere about viewing shows before they are broadcast and I couldn't tell anyone. First thing they'd want to do is dissect it!
BTW, The torrent version that I tried had the same problem. I'm afraid to put the TiVo to that test again. I've been through too many spontaneous TiVo reboots and hard drive failures to be comfortable with pissing off the magic smoke in my TiVo!

Probably too late, get an uninteruptable power supply.
I have one and it turned out that the power supplies in some of the TIVO 2s were a tad crappy. I ordered one from Weaknees and installed it myself.

Unless smoke is coming from your machine, it's not too late to get a UPS.
A UPS wouldn't have made any difference in this case because USA aired the same "footage" twice during the first showing. It was their fault.

I'm having a "dense" day today but I'm thinking this was a comment in regards to my "spontaneous reboots" statement. Right?
For the benefit of all who read this, I agree completely on the use of UPS units with TiVos. I have a 725va unit "powering" only our two DirecTiVos. They both can continue to record for around 50+ minutes when the power goes out and it's saved us a few times in the last 6 years.
But that's not the issue here.
The situation that I'm experiencing is that my unit has rebooted the very moment I told it to record a specific airing of a specific show. It's done it twice in exactly the same way and I don't like to put extra strain on my DirecTiVos. They are getting kind of old (2 Philips DSR6000's) and should I strain the power supplies too much or cycle the drives on and off too much I might upset the delicate balance that exists. Parts aren't immediately available and I'm not prepared to spend hours repairing either one of them right now.
I don't want to put them out of commission since it's fairly difficult to back them up regularly and both have a bunch of unwatched shows on them. (Last system backup for either of them was in early 2007.)
Still, it's interesting that there is some bit of code being accessed at that moment that is either causing a reboot or causing a failure situation that triggers a reboot.
I watched the Dead Zone episode that was out of sequence and I still have the general idea and I saw the ending which looked to be the most revealing part of the show anyway.

USA is a major network?
Hmm, the 10pm West Coast feed showing was fine.. Isn't that just the east coast feed delayed for 3 hours? I was watching this on the treadmill, but I wasn't *that* zoned out that I'd ignore a mixup this bad.. (Though a flashback in one of the Sopranos episodes I watched on DVD wasn't clearly a flashback, even though it had to be logically from the show's perspective... and David Chase made it sound like it was "obvious" it was a flashback in the commentary... This was the one where one of Tony's underlings and Hathaway-from-er were going out.)
