HD Picture Quality and Compression

I am thinking about buying a Series 3 or TIVO HD to record both analog and HD TV.

Question: Does either TIVO record the HD at its full resolution or are any video compression algorithms being used. If video compression is being used, are there any noticable artifacts?

If video compression is being used, are there any noticable artifacts?The TivoHD and Tivo Series3 record the original digital bitstream from cable and off-air. The recordings are 100% identical to the live broadcast. The TivoHD and Tivo Series3 do not have any way of compressing HD.

The TivoHD does have hardware for compressing SD, but that is only used on analog signals.
