Hello, all. Since DirecTV announced the new HD channels and its MPEG4 receiver. I have been searching the various forums to see if there is any hope for ever getting the HR10-250 converted or upgraded. The answer seems to be a NO!
I know on these type of forums many electronic wizards and gurus hang out. Are there any out there that think a hardware conversion will ever be found.
I need to stay with the simple TIVO interface because my elderly parents have the same system as I, and this way I can help them over the phone. I tried the Direct TV DVR thing and was very disappointed. Is there any other way to have TIVo and still get the MPEG 4 HD programs? Can one incorporate a standalone TIVO and DIret receiver? I know TIVO now has a HD receiver, but only for cable.

If you want to stay with Tivo and have HD other than just OTA in the near future, your only choice is to get a Series 3 tivo, which isn't compatible with directv. An mpeg4 hardware conversion of the HR10 is not a viable option. The cost of resource and materials, as well as just the research itself, would far outway the benefits.

If man can build it, I'm sure man can find a way to unbuild and rebuild it. I'm sure if anyone had figured out how, they would have probably said so. If someone figured it out, and found a cost-effective way of reproducing them, hell, I'd probably buy one or three. ;)

I am like you, I would definately buy the conversion. As much as I like the HD channels, I think I am going to stay with my dual receiver TIVO. Directv's dual tuner is not giving me enough sugar for my dime. TIVO's interface is so much better. I sure wish TIVO would make a SAT capable box.
