New Hard Drive & GSOD

Just got a tivo, for the 3rd (an hopefully final) time. Bought a 250gb hard drive off ebay, pre-setup for tivo, or so I was told.

The standard 40gb hard drive in the tivo works fine.

I put the 250gb drive in, run guided setup and then I got to the final section and the tivo rebooted into the GSOD. I am told that this is the hard drive failing, but its a brand new drive (or so I was told). I figure the guy could have inadvertently put the 2.5.5a software on the drive instead of the 2.5.5, causing the problem.

Anyway I am going to have a go at the drive with Hooch(from tivoheaven), once I can find where I saved it on my hard drive and can burn it to disk.

Anyone got any ideas of what else could be causing the problems.

It sounds like corruption on the drive - the wrong software version won't cause a GSOD.

Hopefully Hooch will sort it... :)

serious, the easiest bit of "programming" i've ever done.

i have a bit of a clue, like I can usually figure stuff out given directions, as I have had a tivo previously before hooch was available and managed to do it all manually, which took about a day of deciphering the instructions scattered around the net and then about 2-3 hours actually doing the drive.

Hooch took me maybe 10 mins from the point of taking the drive out of the tivo and putting in th pc to putting back in the tivo. Worth every penny of my gf's money lol
