Hacking tivo without software

I'm trying to figure out if there is a way to my access my tivo from outside my home network. Everything I've found so far requires that you have something downloaded to both your computer and the tivo. I'm currently away at college and don't have access to my tivo to download these packages to it. If I have the IP address and the media access key for the tivo is there anyway to connect to it?

What are you trying to do?

If you want to install hacks, you cannot do that over the network, you need to have physical access to the box, open it, and modify system files and the kernel, and if need be, effect a PROM mod.
