Bad Tuner on Sat 1

Searched the threads but didn't find anything on this specific tuner problem. I recently purchased a Samsung S4040R and a "new" access card from DirecTV for it. When I tried to set it up, I found that there was no signal input on Sat 1 while Sat 2 was fine, switched the cable inputs, but still no sig on 1 while 2 was OK. Much time on phone with D* tech support only to have them "determine" that the unit is probably bad. And you can't activate the unit unless sat 1 is working! (Seller says it worked prior to shipment, but...) While I pretty much agree that the unit is probably bad, I was wondering if there is some way of finding out for sure and/or repairing it. Has anyone else run into this problem and did they find a fix or do a unit replacement?

I've opened the unit and there's no obvious problem. Nothing looks broken or dirty. Just seems strange that one tuner would go bad in shipment when there's no visable damage. Oh well, Murphy strikes again!

Some users have reported problems with using S-Video and Sat 1. If you are using S-Video disconnect the cable and try using RCA or the coax connection. Without Sat 1 you will not be able to use the unit.

I'm using the coax connection, not the S-video, so that can't be the problem. Guess I'm going to have to replace it. Oh well, back to searching eBay.
