D* and Tivo Enhancement to Series 2 units

Are the R10 and the HR10-250 units both a Series 2 model and so they will both receive the updates when they come out?

Sure wish Tivo would create a software update to convert mpeg4 signals. Why wouldn't they do this just to be able to keep their base longer?

The HR10 doesn't have the hardware for MPEG4 signals.
Also, the CPU in it wouldn't be able to handle the conversions in realtime.

Yes, the R10 will get the update. It appears that one of the intended motives for the update is to get all of the Series 2 DirecTiVos onto one version of the software, which they have not been in the past. This should make any further maintenance by TiVo easier.
