I've got a Hughes SD-DVR80 and I'd like to know if anyone has received the 6.3e-01-2-351 slices on this type of unit yet. I actually do not know if my model of Tivo is going to get the upgrade anytime soon. I've been checking the /SwSystem portion of the MFS since word started popping up here that 6.3e was coming down the pike. The slices are not on my unit. Is this going to be an early 2008 release? Or can I expect it sometime soon?

You may want to read this forum and that other forum before deciding if you want to install 6.3e on your DirecTivo. The removal of MRV in 6.3e is a deal breaker for me.

My dvr80 got 6.3e several days ago. I haven't reinstalled since 6.2a downloaded earlier this year.

Do you know what triggers a unit to pull it out of the satellite stream? If you have it, it must be in the stream. Are individual units or groups of units targeted? I know how the call-in thing works to trigger the actual installation, but mystified by how the slices get into the MFS over the satellite.

Look in the quote of my text in your reply. There's a "large wiener" that doesn't belong. How did that get into the stream?

Looks like 6.3e doesn't follow this convention anymore.

My DSR704 is now at version 6.3e-01-2-101. It was 6.2a-01-2-301 before. So version suffix & service number prefix may not match anymore. Or they folded the DRS704/704/7000 into one version. BUT "dthreet" original post says his "Philips DSR704's 6.3e-01-2-301". Anybody else seeing this difference?

I also noticed:
- My capacity went from 220 hours to 217 hours. There's a 250GB disk in there.
- My channel logos are not restored. I previously did a Clear & Delete All, which I lost my logos. But I thought an update would restore them.
- At the very bottom on the System Information screen, there's a notice about using Apple's Bonjour network discovery software. Maybe 6.3e will add networking support.

bonjour notice has been in there since 6.2 at least.

My service number begins with 351, but it is a SD-DVR80 according to the label on the back but HDVR2 on the system information screen. Which version is for my unit is not quite clear any more. It has 6.2a-01-2-351 at the moment with nothing else in the /SwSystem area of MFS.

Do you know what triggers a unit to pull it out of the satellite stream? If you have it, it must be in the stream.

With both the recent 6.2-->6.2a upgrade, and this recent 6.3e upgrade, my units have captured the slices from the sat stream within 48 hours of a forced connection.

Day 0. I set my units up to connect via network. Forced a connection.

Day 1 Noticed that /SwSystem, which previously contained several (8 I think) slices for 6.2a, including the active slice, had been cleared of all but the active slice.

Day 2 /SwSystem had 6.3e slices. My R10's had a 6.3e slice ending with "521", and my rca dvr40 had 2 slices, 101 and 121, I believe.

From what I have seen, it is my opinion that something downloaded in a connection authorizes/instructs the box to pull the slices from the stream.

No, you don't need a connection for the slices to show up. My boxes have not been connected to a phone line in a year and a half and they have the new versions.

Not in 6.2 but maybe 6.2a. I just put a new hard drive in my dvr40 so I checked it before upgrading... No Bonjour. It skips 6.2a (so I couldn't check it) and goes straight to 6.3e

Hey everyone. My machine was recently upgraded (automatic) to the 6.3e SW.
Direction or notification from DT was of course zero.

The networking setup of course is not on the menu, but since it (6.3e) appears to contains protocol should it function with a network connection. Haven't tried yet.

Thanks for any suggestions.

No, it should not function. The networking features are disabled and in fact in 6.3e, much of the code has been removed. Don't infer anything significant from the copyright notice.

To expound upon what Stevel wrote, by default, Networking is not enabled in 6.3e (though all the Networking code is present in 6.3e). The updated HME patch still exposes the "Phone & Network" (sub)menus; however, this requires modifying your tivoapp.

Stevel's correct that the MRV code is gone from the 6.3+ dtivo software line.

Just a follow up:

- I now have channel logos again: rebooted by DSR704 and they showed up. Did some testing to figure out what happened. The upgrade to 6.3e did NOT restore the logos. ??? If you then force a call, then reboot, you'll get the logos. You must force a call then reboot; only rebooting didn't work.

- No mention of Apple's Bonjour in 6.1a nor 6.2a.

I'm glad it worked for you , but that doesn't always work. I've got an R10 that lost logos last year when I had to C&DE. I tried a number of reboots, forced calls, force call and then reboot. I never got my logos back until I hacked the box and did it myself.

I never got my logos back until I hacked the box and did it myself.I've alway wondered how one could "hack" the logos back. Can you give a brief description or reference for how to do that?

1) Have an already hacked box

2) Download the logo slice from the thread in the files forum at ddb

3) ftp said logo slice to hacked box

4) load logo slice into mfs database "dbload slice file name

5) done

FWIW, I believe the latest logo slice is included in the zipper, or rbautch's enhancement script.

The logos came back for an R10 that I have. ??? Same procedure after it upgraded to 6.3e: forced a call then rebooted.
