I can't seem to find that info anywhere.

I'm not aware that there is any maximum, though if you have a lot, things get slower as you edit them.

Over a hundred is certainly doable, although editing them does slow down significantly. (Mainly in the recalculation when you leave the season pass manager)
The highest number or season passes (+ auto-recording wishlists) I can remember anyone mentioning on their TiVo (not specifically a HR10-250) was over 500.

Just like the question "how many programs can you run on a computer at one time", I think it probably depends on the parameters of the system (of course they are somewhat fixed on a HR10). I typically never have more than 30-35 during the heavy TV season, but I kill old ones because too many slow it down, and SPs sometimes don't work for following seasons (info is sometimes configured differently for new seasons). So the best policy, unless you are trying to get into Guiness, is to keep them pared down.
Tivo seems to have a (sensible) policy of telling you what the system will do, and NOT telling you what the theoretical limitations might be. They assume that smart owners are reasonable in their operation of the equipment. If someone is trying to set a record, at some point the system will just not work properly. If your goal is to break the system, you will probably reach it. If your goal is reliability, that's probably not advised.

The question is relevant because the DirecTV non-TiVo DVRs have a hard limit of 50 "series links" (equivalent to Season Pass).

Really?
No suggestions and only 50 season passes?
What am I going to watch?
I watch only a few shows regularly. The remainder of what I watch I get from suggestions. I was thinking that if I made the switch that I would just have to be more dilligent about setting up season passes. Between my wife and I there are probably 100+ shows we will watch on occasion.
That is sort of a let down.
Has there been any word on the Comast Tivo box?

Is the 50 season pass limit still there in the HR20? I haven't heard it mentioned recently.

Yes, it is still there. Tony asked because he is putting together a comparision of the satellite DVRs (D* and E*) on dbstalk.
