How can I force my Tivo to upgrade to the newest firmware?

I have Comcast coming tomorrow, and want to upgrade to the "B" version of the new firmware. How can i make it update?

You can't really *force* it. All you can do is have it call home until it downloads the new software and shows 'Pending Restart', then reboot to install it.

It's not a firmware upgrade but rather a software upgrade that's installed on the hard drive. Firmware is a software upgrade that's installed on an integrated circuit such as a PROM.

The more you try to force it the less likely it will happen. This is a variation on the watched pot never boils :)

Seriously though, as others have said, there is some undisclosed algorithm of choosing who gets the upgrade. It seems when your time is up, you just get it and until then you can try all you want and it won't come. They are probably doing a hash on some ID # to decide if you should get the upgrade today.
