I read in the FAQ...
Does the 30-second skip backdoor still work?
Yes. The SPS30S (Select-Play-Select-3-0-Select) code still toggles 30-second skip support on/off.
and clicked the keys in order on my remote...but I am unclear on what to do next...do I have to type this sequence everytime I want to do a 30 second jump? Or does one of the keys on my remote, now have the 30 second jump-ahead now turned on? If yes...which key is it.
thank you
Andy :)

Press the --> button on the remote to use the 30 second skip when it is enabled.
Pressing Select-Play-Select-3-0-Select enables/disables the 30 second skip for that button.

It's the button opposite of the "Instant Replay" button. By default, I believe it skips to the end of the Show or "Live TV", or to the beginning of the show.
The 30 second skip should be mapped to this key until you do a reset on your machine, or possibly a software upgrade. I'm unsure.

Also it's easier to activate if you're watching a recorded program when you enter the code.

Note that it only works at normal play speed, if fast forwarding or rewinding the ->| button means 'skip to tick' or 'skip to end' (if in Live TV).

not only is it easier, it's the only way to get it to activate!
I've only set up the 30 second "backdoor" a couple of different times and each time I've done it, I've struggled through several attempts until it finally dawns on me that I MUST be watching a recorded program as I input the required keystrokes in order to get the 30 second skip method to activate. :o I can't get it to "take" any other way.

got it working and it does seem a lot easier to trigger when you are watching something. I'm so glad I read the faq to find this out. :) thanks for the help.

On an S3 running 8.1 or 8.3 you can enable while watching livetv as well, it just leaves you in a state where your channel # will change to 30 unless you press livetv again at the end of the sequence.

ah ha!
nobody ever told me about that needed extra keystroke! ;)
I've always stopped after the third input of "select". Thanks for clarifying.

SPS30S (and SPS9S and SPSIRS) will work on a recording OR Live TV. But on LiveTV the SPS30S and SPS9S will also change the channel unless you do something - the easiest thing to do is hit 'Clear' (SPS30SC, SPS9SC) as that will clear the digits before they take effect, canceling the change.

Does this program the remote only, or a setting on the TiVo?
Have a Series 2 and TiVo HD, Both Remotes set up to control either box.

Has nothing to do with the remote, it programs the Tivo. In fact if the Tivo reboots, you have to input it again.

Is there a way to re-program the rewind as well? It seems that my HD TiVo's rewind feature only goes back about 5 or 10 seconds???? I would like it go to back 15 or more if possible.

Nope. At least that is not known.
