Switch from Month to Month to Prepay?

So at the moment, paying month to month works better for my situation but in a few months, the opposite may be true.

Just curious, if i sign up with a 1-year commitment with month to month, before the end of the contract, can i switch to a prepaid plan?

I called a Tivo Wednesday and asked that very question before I activated. The first answer was no, I would have to finish my first committment before switching. After checking, she said I could, but would have to begin a new committment upon switching.

So I really have no idea. Logically you would be able to "upgrade" without penalty, but of course that's not how the world works.
