Mysterious Blobs Around Internal Components

Hey

I have 2 Tivo units, an Series 2 and an HR10. My Series 2 hard drive died a while ago and just recently my HR10 drive failed. I opened both units to get peek at what was going on under the hood and I saw several "blobs" surrounding many of the components on to the power circuit. I have no idea what these are because it does not look like it belongs. Can anyone me what they are and whether it be the source of my problems?

Completely normal. The goop keeps those components from moving around.
