I for one hope so.
Dead Like Me wouldn't be even be close to the same without him.
Then again, Criminal Minds won't be either.
I'd rather some more Dead Like Me though.

As it is Criminal Minds is borderline boring. Criminal Minds without Mandy Patinkin will probably become unwatchable, especially if they rely on Thomas Gibson becoming the lead/star actor.
It's really a shame this didn't happen early enough to affect the Dead Like Me movie. He really shined in that role.

I thought I read somewhere once that Mandy gets bored easily with shows he's on and leaves a lot. Him being back on DLM would be really cool though.

I heard he wanted to work without pants because the 'swish-swish' when he walked drove him crazy! :)

Hollywood people never learn, "he fell victim to one of the classic blunders! The most famous is never get involved in a land war in Asia, but only slightly less well-known is this: never go in against a Sicilian when death is on the line"

Think it'll work?
It'll take a miracle
I wish good luck to him. He's a good actor. I'm sure whatever the situation, he'll find work elsewhere.

Yeah. It is like FBI Rock... Sort of like Cop Rock but with the FBI.
He once did a Duet with the greatest Serial Killer of All Time.

I like criminal minds but will dump my SP it if this is true. The show will be unwatchable without him. I suggest CBS work it out or cancel the show.

So he'll leave the show, then come back in a few years to save the show... (like he did on Chicago Hope)
(I don't watch Criminal Minds anymore.. it's a good show, but there are more shows I like better..)

Actually, Mandy Patinkin is partially responsible for us having a S3. One of the rationalizations I used to justify the cost was the fact that we needed more than two HD tuners recording programming at the same time, this fall, Wednesday 9PM (Criminal Minds, Bionic Woman, Bones and Private Practice). I suppose we would still need one extra HD tuner, but that makes that rationalization only half as legitimate, and depending on who they get to replace Patinkin, maybe Criminal Minds will still be worth watching.

Yeah he is the only character on Criminal Minds they can't really afford to lose. I don't know that I watch the show because of him, but the show would be very different without him. He is the glue that makes that show work.
Any of the other characters could leave without much fanfaire.

I think I had read a while back that he was looking to leave the show so it doesn't surprise me. I believe he said he wanted to get away from the dark subject matter and get back to working on shows that were a little more light hearted.
I definitely hope it is for more Dead Like Me.

I doubt it's DLM. Think about it - he wants to get away from dark subject matter? DLM had some dark subject matter.
Besides, they've already started filming. They'd have to do some expensive rewriting, as well as put filming on hold while they did it.

DLM had some dark subject matter.Yes, but at the same time, Rube was always the "heart" of the show, representing the sort-of "father figure" for the rest of the reapers. As such, he remained fairly isolated from any of the dark subject matter.
Besides, they've already started filming. They'd have to do some expensive rewriting, as well as put filming on hold while they did it.You're likely right on this count. He might be available for a cameo appearance possibly, but it'd likely be too late for the plot to change enough to feature him as a starring role.

Yea but if they are thinking about another series it would be apiece of cake to cliff hanger his appearance at the end of the movie.

I guess I'm one of the few who really wasn't a fan of his character on Criminal Minds. They never did much with him, and he was kind of boring. I don't feel like I really "know" his character. So if it's true, I'm not too broken up about it.

Wait until you get more HD channels. I needed two HD tuners for recording 6 years ago when I bought two HiPix cards for HD recording from the PC. Now there are many times that I need 4 or 5 tuners. So I need to get MRV enabled or get a couple of HDTiVos. I'm hoping to get the cheaper version when it comes out later this year.

Mandy has indeed asked to be released from his contract, and the request was granted. Both are saying it was "creative differences." First, here is the official statement from CBS Paramount Network Television and ABC Studios:
Last week Mandy Patinkin asked to be released from his role on “Criminal Minds.” We have honored this request, which was not in any way connected to contract renegotiations or salary issues. His departure from the series will be explained to audiences in an episode to be filmed in the near future and broadcast early next season. We thank Mandy for helping to make “Criminal Minds” a strong and successful series, and we wish him the best in his future endeavors. A new character will be added to the series for next season.
And here is the statement from Mandy's people:
Due to creative differences, Mandy has asked not to return to “Criminal Minds” this season. Mandy would like to thank the studios and network for releasing him from the series and wishes the cast and crew continued success in all of their endeavors, and he looks forward to continuing to work with the Disney and CBS companies in other capacities in the future.
Both were found here: http://blogs.jsonline.com/cuprisin/
(Pasted both in their entirety, because both were official press statements.)

The best replacement would be to drop Criminal Minds and give a 30-episode order to Jericho now.
:p

I almost agree, except after the last seven or eight episodes of Jericho, I don't trust its producers. (Maybe they can pull Jericho in, give it its seven episode trial in the Fall instead of the Winter, and then decide after three or four episodes have aired whether to order more of Jericho.)
Luckily (?), that one time-slot is the most competitive in the schedule. Lots of other choices to choose from if we find we need to ditch Criminal Minds.
I don't like the idea of replacing Gideon. I would rather see they shake up the show from within, and bring someone new in to fill any gaps which are left AT THE BOTTOM.

I was hoping that they'd do some plane crash or something where Hotch is too mangled to get out in the field. Then his character could remain a la Charlie from Charlie's Angels and any scenes could be done with him homebound in front of a massive computer center where he spends his time studing al Quaeda sites and running 'to catch a predator' stings remotely.
