View Full Version : Amazon Unboxed not showing up

So i have been trying to get unboxed to work. I got to Amazon.com order a movie and tell it to go to my TiVo. It never shows up! The first time i tried was back in April. I emailed customer service to get a refund and this is what i was told

sorry for any misunderstanding; however, as indicated on the product
detail page, at the time of purchase, and in the Amazon Unbox Terms
of Use, Amazon Unbox videos are not refundable.

In researching both this order and your recent order for "Die Hard"
I see that we have been unable to make a connection with your TiVo
DVR for downloading.


My tivo is correctly connected to the net via a wired ethernet adapter. It connects to the Tivo service fine. My account has the Tivo checked off for Media downloads. Anyone else have problems or a solution?

Specs of Setup
Tivo: Toshiba RS-TX20
Network: Netgear USB Wired ethernet adapter (i think its netgear, might be Linksys)
Internet: FIOS 20mbps down / 5 mbps up
TV: Vizio 42" Plasma (not that it matters)

Does your home network firewall (or router) block any outbound ports? If so check the logs and open those ports up so that the TiVo can request the download. If it is not your equipment, check with your ISP to make sure they aren't blocking your TiVo's requests.

What ports are required? I am not sure if i have logs available, but i will check.


UPDATE
i just checked the logs while initiating a TiVo update. Saw all the connectons, but nothing was being blocked.

I think it is the VCM connection that will matter and you can't force it. However if it has been failing, your logs should be full of notes about ports being blocked. If you don't see that, then it is possible the blockage is happening in your ISP's network.

I don't know any addresses or port numbers off the top of my head, but perhaps if you search carefully you might find something in this forum or the help forum.

i have had Verizon FIOS for about 6 months now and they have not blocked anyports on me yet. Time to consult the magic of Google. THanks

TiVo was saying that i was getting poor connecton speed despite having FIOS (20/5). So i went to manual IP using OpenDNS

Are you still having an issue with the downloads? Do you get any kind of message regarding it in your "View Recording History" screen under the To Do list?

Did you configure your DVR to do automatic DHCP?

I've just had the same problem, ordered Blood Diamond about 4 hours ago, nothing has shown up yet. Sent off an email. Normal connection working just fine. I got a bad feeling I'm out 3.99 since it shows on Amazon as "delivered" I don't think I'll be trying this again.

I have continuously had the same problem since April also. I purchased one show and rented another back when Unbox was first announced. Neither have ever shown up. I have discussed several times with Amazon customer support and Tivo customer support and both are clueless.

I requested my money back but have finally given up on that also. All other TivoCast videos download fine. The Unbox always gives an error that the file was not downloaded because it could not be found.

Interestingly enough, the Amazon previews download about every week.

When i called TiVo they said the error was that i didn't have enough bandwidth. This was after i went to static IP and OpenDNS. But unplugged the DVR and the usb wired adapter. Pluged the TIvo back in and did not plug in the adapter until i was at the home screen. For some reason that fixed it and now Tivo Casts and Unboxed shows up. It took about 3 hours for Dia Hard to download.

Had the same problem yesterday, where the rented movie will not show up - it initially showed up as "download in progress" but when i came back a few hours later, there was no trace of the download, nor any clue as to what can i do next. i sent an email to amazon customer service, but it seems this new service is not fully tested.

I recently purchased and installed a Tivo Series 2DT sandalone unit running with Digital Cable no converter box. I also have it hooked up to my home network via the wireless network. I have forced three downloads and two restarts to get the software up to date at version 8.3. I have set up a Amazon unbox account linked it to my tivo account two days ago (forced a download an restart since then). I have set to accept video downloads and set a pin. However, unbox still does not show up as an option in my find programs list. I have all the other network features shared photos, and music, live365 support (tested it works). Am I missing something simple or do I just need to wait a few more days? I even called customer support at Tivo and they told me after the update to ver8.3 it would be there and it still isn't. Help a Tivo returner, My how I have missed it.

I Forgot to mention that I don't have a TivoCast option either on my box. So I can't see unbox or TivoCast on my Box. Anyhelp would be appriciated.

Having the same problem. I have Unbox downloaded to computer, up and functioning.

Ordered a movie and nothing is showing up. My Tivo allows downloads and nothing shows up there. Tried Customer service x2 at Amazon; one for a pin number which I still do not have and another for movies not showing up in Unbox.

So, I await a solution to the BIG PROBLEM. I will keep reading for a solution somewhere, hopefully without screwing up my computer. :mad:

What fixed it for me was using a static IP and OpenDNS.. Tivo was showing an "download spped to low" error. But after doing opendDNS and doing a hard reboot it was fixed.

1. Assign Static IP and OpenDNA
2. Pull power from TiVo
3. Detach network adapter
4. Power up TiVo (no network attached)
5. Wait for TiVo main screen and reattach network
6. Force connection to TiVo servers.
7. Go to amazon and resend the show to your TiVo.

That worked for me.

I have had the problem ongoing and there are 2 other fixes.

First - if your TiVo is set to record a certain number of programs in the next 2 days the UnBox order won't download. In my case, I have hours of stuff in the deleted folder and hours of stuff that can be deleted at any moment, but for whatever reason when TiVo goes to download an UnBox program it doesn't delete things to make room for it.

What I usually do if there is a download 'failure' is delete as much programming as possible and also CANCEL as much scheduled recordings for the next 2 days. After the movie or TV downloads I then go back and retrieve whatever I deleted and re-schedule the future recordings. Kindof stupid I agree but that always seems to work.

The other thing has to do with the new 'linking' of your TiVo to Amazon.com since the new feature started. I couldn't get them to link and therefore couldn't get my TiVo to show up on amazon.com until I deleted my OLD Tivo settings on amazon.com and then I was able to re-set the new link. Again kindof a pain in the rear, but it worked for me.

My problem is resolved. I was not going to give up.

I kept e-mailing Amazon. I ordered a movie, had the Unbox loaded. I could not figure out where the movie was. Kept sending e-mails to Amazon without problems being resolved. Amazon finally gave my e-mail to someone else and I kept e-mailing him and he checked into my account and many E-mails later, I could watch the movie on my computer.

This same person figured out why I could not get my Pin number also. Now, I can finally download movies from Tivo.

Kept E-mailing Amazon.

Thanks flyinace2000 this fix abridged a little worked for me. I just switched to static IP and forced a download and then everything worked great. I appreciate you posting the fix. This forum is great and I love my TiVo even though I only watch like 10 hrs a week. Thanks again all and keep up the good work. :up: :up:

www.opendns.org its free. Just set up manual ip on the tivo and input their DNS servers.

My Tivo said that the this program was not downloaded onto this DVR, because it was not found on the source. and this is after a few minutes of hitting download in Amazon.

I had a very similar issue occur, it said it was delivered but no movie. Would love to hear if you got some closure to the issue.

I've gotten this error so far for '300' and 'children of men' that i ordered a few days ago. I'm not sure what that could mean other than tivo couldn't figure out where at amazon to download them from?

i've emailed amazon and am waiting for a response. there's a number for amazon unbox? can someone post it please?

I've seen people mention sending the movies to your tivo again from the amazon unbox website? i haven't seen how to do that. Please provide details? i'm going to go poke around at amazon unbox and see if i can figure it out. if i can then i'll post with instructions.

ah, i think i see how to do it.

http://amazon.com/unbox

go to 'your media library'

then use the 'downloads' tab to look at your 'unbox videos'

click 'download' and you can choose to send it to your tivo again.

unfortunately for '300' and 'children of men' (and the other videos that actually are on tivo) it says they have already been downloaded and i don't get the option to send them to tivo again. but they aren't on tivo and haven't been since i ordered them.

so i'm waiting to hear from that email to amazon.

For those of you who. like me, wanted to take advantage of Amazon Unbox, here is what you need to do. You must call Tivo customer support and tell them to change your privacy status to COMPLETELY OPT-IN. Only Tivo customer service can change this status and you will be read a disclaimer that states your privacy information regarding viewing habits, etc, will be captured and shared with Tivo partners but your privacy information will not be sold to Tivo partners. Once you have opted-in, then you must force a call to Tivo. Accomplish this by accessing Messages & Settings -> Settings -> Phone & Network -> Connect to Tivo Service Now. Once the call has been placed, the Unbox option should appear within 24 hours.
