Well that was hard to follow. I guess I forgot a lot of the details about how season 1 ended.
I'm not particularly enamored of the direction season 2 is possibly headed... with Henry apparently going off half cocked now. And a young kid "hiding" the artifact within himself.
Oh well, summer fun; that's all this is supposed to be.

Despite not understanding "the man downstairs" and how/why Allison's son would ever have been taken to Global, I thought this was pretty good. I also don't understand why it took about a month after Kim died for everyone else in the vicinity of the Artifact to self-combust, but ... whatever. It's fiction.
I also think they really need to remove the soft filter when Debrah Farentino is in the scene. It's distracting.
Anyway, I'm sure we'll eventually find there's a connection between Beverly and the occupational therapist, or the O.T. and the Senator.

Great episode ... lots of lines that had me laughing.
I did get a little disturbed at the end ... Henry seems like he *wants* to go nuts..
Its one thing when you blame someone for your loves death... its now another matter when he has no idea what you are talking about...

Looks like they're going to make Henry a bad guy, which is a shame.
Why are they using a soft filter on Debrah Farentino? Has she aged that badly?
Might be that the eclipse woke up the Artifact inside the kid, and now it's incinerating people who injured it or people who tick the kid off. A homage to Dark Phoenix and Heroes?

I think the solar show mixed with the Artifact is what caused it. not just the Artifact

Well that was hard to follow. I guess I forgot a lot of the details about how season 1 ended. I had too, but a second watching was much more satisfying, especially catching all the ways Jack was confused about the present and the "future."
Despite not understanding "the man downstairs" and how/why Allison's son would ever have been taken to Global, I thought this was pretty good. . The son was either in day care or a regular therapy session at Global, since his therapist worked there in Section 1. The therapist snuck out and was talking with the other victim in Section 5, which was downstairs. Just why he did that is still unknown.

I wasn't trilled with the Henry plot twist either but I guess they need a new antagonist for the S2 story arc since Stark seems to be turning into a pussy cat.

I thought the bits with Jack trying to relive the future that he'd already lived through were pretty amusing, but if he'd already been "back" for a month, wouldn't he have already gotten used to that? It was as if that month didn't even happen or something.

I suspect nothing terribly divergent happened during that month...

Due to conflicts, my Tivo recorded the second showing, not the first. It was off by something like ten minutes and I missed the ending. (Did anyone else notice this? Unlikely as I am the only one bringing it up.) To add to my frustration, unlike Galactica which Sci-Fi seemed to show a half dozen times during the week, there is no scheduled encore showing another day. Will I have to wait for the whole of season two to play out before I get to see a rerun of episode one? This is not the way to start a season!

+1. I got the second showing, which started with 10 minutes of "Painkiller Jane."
I guess the SciFi Channel had an earlier sports show run over... NOT! :D

You might be joking, but if not . . .
SciFi had something called ECW on after the first airing of Eureka and from the guide data it appears to be some sort of wrestling. It must have run long.

Thanks ParadiseDave, I'm glad it wasn't just me. Just how much time will I have to pad my recordings to make sure that I get the whole show? This schedule-slipping is not acceptable. Lost was doing this a lot last year, which is when I started to pad my SPs by a couple of minutes. This was like ten minutes though!

I never padded my LOST recording last season, and not once did I have the recording end before the previews from the next week ended.

It happened to me, pretty consistently. Since it never ate into the actual show it didn't really bother me, but ABC (or at least their local affiliate here) has never been very good about starting and stopping exactly on time...unlike NBC (or at least their local affiliate here), which always starts everything (or at least, everything I watch) PRECISELY when the TiVo begins recording.

I'm conflicted about this episode. It was good, but it was much less light hearted than last year. While I chuckled in some spots it wasn't as fun as last year. I'm hoping they don't make the Henry thing an issue in every episode. I don't mind some of that, but it's much darker than I'd like the show to be.

Glad this show is back!! I missed the last few minutes, thanks to some timing issue with Sci Fi channel and the recordings. I take is Henry got whacky in those last few minutes. I'm hoping the next episode explains a few more things that this episode didn't explain!

I don't know that the kid is 'hiding' the artifact within himself. I think he was down in the room and was able to communicate with it, somehow. It could be that it went into him at the point that it "blew up", as a place of refuge. To me, that would signify that the artifact is an alien life of some sort.
Henry wanting to hate the Sheriff for stuff that he's never going to remember seems an interesting concept. I don't believe he's taking a job at Global Dynamics to just work there. I think he's trying to get close to Allison to take her away from the Sheriff. However, he'll find that revenge against a man who can't remember will be a waste of time.

This brings up an interesting point: Now that many stations are using video servers for their air playback, it has become possible for them to easily delay their network feeds, instead of the traditional method of local programming running around the "unmovable" network schedule. I wonder if any stations are doing this on a regular basis? It would certainly mess with the schedules in our Tivo's

He might also be going to work there because he thinks he can do something with the artifact remnant. He did kind of stare into the room after they hauled Stark off to try to stop his imminent combustion.
It might not be a revenge thing (or might not only be a revenge thing). Heck, maybe he thinks with the Sheriff now unaware of his previous attempt to save Kim that he can hatch some new scheme to do so that won't unravel the universe.

I don't think it's about revenge for Henry at all. It's about getting Kim (that is her name, right?) back. Hang on tight, because time travel stuff gets confusing for those of us accustomed to linear time. ;)
The Henry we have now remembers Kim dying and remembers the four years it took him to be able to go back in time to save her. He also remembers failing because the Sheriff stopped him. Because he never got a chance to live in the time line where he saved Kim, he has no fond memories. The Sheriff's memories were not actually from the same time line as Henry. The Sheriff's are from the time line where Henry did save Kim.
So while Henry and the Sheriff both have "future" memories they are from different time lines. Given that, I think Henry is going to work at GD because he remembers doing that and is planning on trying to save Kim again. Only this time it might not take him as long because he already knows how to solve the problem, he just needs the right access.
See, clear as mud. ;)
Please feel free to load guns and shoot holes in this. I got a headache just trying to come up with it.

I agree - I hope they are not starting another internal arc - and I for one don't like the darker tone - I much prefer the quirky fish out of water aspect to the whole thing - this is not supposed to be a deep thought provoking show IMO

I missed the last ten min. too so what happened when Jack went to talk to Henry. at the end?
Henry told Jack that intellectually he knew that Jack forcing Henry to let Kim die was the right thing to do, but emotionally he was still mad at Jack and didn't think he'd be able to get over it. Henry gave Jack a speech about how it was going to be too difficult to live with the memories of the timeline that they now can never relive, and that they should wipe their memories. Jack wondered if that was a good idea, at which point Henry said, "Here, let me make it easy for you" and waved a memory modification device that he'd been working on in front of Jack's face. Jack looked stunned for a second and then had suddenly clearly forgotten what they were talking about. He left the shop, and then Henry smashed the modification device with a hammer, saying, "I'll never forget" or something like that.

I have a feeling the showrunners have a "plan" and had one since the first episode, and that time travel will be important throughout the series, right up to the finale.

I never really thought of that. It's such a rarity that writers/producers have any thought about what's going to happen next week, never mind next season (except Babylon5). That would be rather refreshing. I think I will go get more Advil right now. :)

I was a little disappointed with this episode. For some reason it didn't seem to have the same feel as last season did. But that is probably just me.
As for missing parts of the show. If you are able to catch the first airing of the show at 9pm I think you will be ok. ECW airs immediately after Eureka. (Side note: ECW is a professional wrestling show.) It is quite often that ECW over runs by 5 to 10 minutes. This kinda bugs me. It's not like ECW is live programming. It's pre-recorded and edited. Why they can't wrap it all up within their alloted timeslot, I do not know. But since this is the case. It tends to screw with the rest of Sci-Fi's programming for at least a couple of hours afterward.
If you record the Eureka replay that airs after ECW you will probably have to pad your season pass to make up for those 5 to 10 minutes that ECW runs over. At least that was my situation last season.

I'm sure Matt is playing Taggart exactly the way they want him to. He is so annoying, we are completely oblivious to just how annoying some of the other characters are. With Taggart, the others seem just fine. I think they could do without him also, but then again, I hated Dr. Smith on Lost in Space.

The second episode of the USA series "Burn Unit" addressed a character's accent in a nice way, with the end result that the accent was essentially eliminated.
