Dead drive A kills Drive B recordings?

I have an S1 Phillips 212. My A drive died and I can replace it and marry the new A to the old working B drive or I can go with one drive. My only motivation for marrying the two drives is to retrieve the old recordings. I read somewhere that they are now gone. Is that correct?

Do a search for the word rescue. If I remember right, it makes a low level image of you the failed drive which is about the best you can do. Hopefully the drive is not completly dead. You can also try MFS live which can copy your old drive to a new one. I would think marrying to a dieing drive would just be more future frustration since once they get married, divorce is tough.

I am satisfied that the drive is dead. The image froze and Maxtor diagnostics found many errors, so I am willing to give it up. I don't think any kind of copy or rescue is an option. The question is whether I will be able to access any of the recordings on the good, B drive, or whether it is necessary to have the original A drive functioning to do so.

It's my understanding that they work together. Your movies are actual on the combination of both drives so one is no good without the other.
