I have two Series 1 Tivos that date back to the year 2000.

I've used them with Cable TV at first and then switched over to DirecTV two years ago.

I recently took advantage of free DVR upgrades for the two DirecTV receivers that are connected to the two Tivos. The installation will take place in two weeks.

What I would like to know is what new features the DirecTV DVRs will give me over the older Series 1 Tivos.

For instance:

1) Can I connect it to my network (via my Linksys router) to view photos and play music that are located on one of my PCs?

2) Can I do online scheduling?

3) Can I do multi-room viewing?

The DirecTv DVR now sold is not a Tivo, and has a forum at

Does this mean it is not Tivo-like at all???

TiVo-like in the sense that it will record two shows at the same time, pause, etc yes. It just doesn't have the same user interface as a true TiVo.

What about the advanced features that I asked about above?

We don't know - we're all Tivo users here. Check the link above to that other forum.
