View Full Version : Am I Hosed?

Earlier tonight, I watched a program and then went to delete it. The X showed up next to the program in Now Playing, but the program never moved to Recently Deleted. I left NP and went back in, the X was gone and the program was still there. The suggestions folder showed something recording, but there were no red lights on the front panel.

Later, I came back to find that I had a black screen. I let that sit for 10-15 minutes, and finally pulled the plug on the unit. After I plugged it in, I got "Welcome, powering up... just a few more minutes..." then BAM, GSOD. The unit has been in a looping GSOD restart (about 1 minute on the GSOD before restart) for a couple hours now. I've attached wired Ethernet and phone lines to give it any possible path home, although I don't know if that'll do anything.

This is an unmodded S3 within the initial 90 day "full" warranty. Will TiVo swap me a new unit, or will I have to send it in for repair? If I get a new unit, will that involve another CableCard fiasco, or can I swap my already-activated CCs into the new unit?

1. Let it ride it out for a while - this happened to me once, and after about a day and a half of looping about, it finally sorted itself out and has been fine since.

2. If it is hosed, call Tivo. You're likely to get a "new" box - it may be a refurb, but it should be the same as a new box (as new as the S3 is, you can't get a box that's more than a year old).

3. Depending on how your cable cards were set up, you may or may not have a problem. Some companies seem to have been not completely pairing the card with the host, allowing you to swap boxes with no problems. Others do the process all the way, which may hopefully only require a call to the cable company.
