Well now that I have the HD receivers, I think I should move up from just two channels. The speakers for a 5.1 setup (except for the center channel) are taken care of, and I have suitable amplification.

Given the rats nest behind the rack, I would like to keep as many things in HDMI as can be managed. Right now this means 3 sources, and I doubt this will be the maximum. One component w/o hdmi, one S video, and one composite. The set has a single hdmi input. Some amount of up/down conversion would be nice (so I can send stuff from the tivo's to the dvd recorder...)

Anyone care to reccomend a processor/preamp?

Again, I can't say enough good about the JVC D401/402/701 "digital" (class G) AVRs. Highly efficient (very green), compact (2 RU), all the bells and whistles, HDMI upconversion, HDMI switching, V1.1 compliant with HR10-250's. Oh, and it sounds great and can be had for under $300. Check the threads on AVS, which will confirm all above.

everything but a preamp out. Have amps that I am happy with, and are well matched to the speakers.
