Tried a Sony/Homeburned disk in my Series 2 Humax Tivo tonight.

It hung on the "Loading" screen and froze my cable-TV Picture.

I couldn't even get a "Tivo" Menu Screen and unplugged and restarted several times...after pulling the plug.

I kept getting the "Wecome, Powering Up Screen"..and after a few minutes the "Almost There" but it kept cycleing to the "Powering Up " Screen and was apparently stuck in a "Loop".

I was able to open the DVD Cover plate and find the wide button on the lower right of the mechanism. Fortunately after pushing it with the power on..the DVD ejected and I was able to get a regular "Power Up" and recycle normally.

WHAT A PAIN IN THE *SS!

This is definaelty a design glitch, (DEFECT) that Tivo, Humax or Sony needs to get corrected and INFORM THEIR CUSTOMERS!!!!

If there is a DVD in the drive when you power up, you will get the result that you did. A DVD should be ejected before cycling power.

"A DVD should be ejected before cycling power."

Duh....that's the problem.

The TIVO FROZE!

No menu, the exterior eject button wouldn't work...I had no controls avilable.....NOTHING HAPPENED because the system "locked-up"!

See my above rant: It all started by simply trying to play a DVD...it FROZE the TIVO....disabling everything including the exterior Eject Button.

Did you try the disc again?

Tried cleaning the laser lens?

Tried cleaning the disc?

Didn't put it anywhere near the Tivo.

Checked it out on the computer and it wouldn't play correctly.
The computer didn't lock up and freeze everything..it just wouldn't play....and ejected fine.

I believe it's a software logic problem: If the DVD doesn't load...it keeps trying and there's no "Time Out" or escape....to the point where nothing else works......Endless Loop?

Yes. There are actually two bugs:

1) The Humax won't boot if there is a DVD in the drive. I keep a paperclip handy just in case, you can open the front cover and insert the papaer clip in the small hole at the bottom left of the DVD drive to eject the DVD with power off. AFAIK this has been an issue since day 1.

2) Since 8.1 if you insert any disk that the unit doesn't recognize it will crash or hang. I've had it happen 3 times, once with a faulty DVD and twice with Dirty DVD's.

Undocumented Feature?

Glad I know about it now.
