tivo can't dial in

I keep getting the message that my system has not made a call for 40,41 41 etc days. "failed no answer" is the error message. 4 calls to Direct TV have not resolved the problem. Could I have a defective modem? What happens if I do nothing? Can I test the modem?

Go into phone setup and see if there is another local number to call. You can do a test call or a daily call to test.
