View Full Version : OTA first then cablecards?

I have to imagine this question has been asked before but did not see it immediately when searching so bear with me.

My new S3 is sitting at home ready for install earlier than expected (doubleboxed by Amazon and delivered today!). I have an OTA setup that works pretty well but don't use very often. Our usual TV service is FIOS (finally got tired of their junky DVR).

I'm looking recommendations on whether it is ok to go ahead and check things out with just OTA or should I wait until my FIOS Cablecard install?

BTW, if wondering why I didn't order from TCS, we have an Amazon CC and I couldn't pass up the points...

Yeah, go ahead and set it up, but you will have to re-run guided setup after installing the CableCARDs.

Cool, thanks. I just wanted to make sure there wasn't going to be any problems during the Cablecard install if I ran guided setup with OTA only...

When I got my S3 in January I immediately ran guided setup for OTA and the lower tier cable channels. Then, after my CableCARDs were installed, I ran guided setup again to add the upper tier cable stuff, including HD. That worked like a charm.

I might add a word of advice: When the cable company tech comes to install your cards, hand him TiVo’s installation instruction sheet and INSIST that he do the job as set out there. If he does, he will do both you and himself a favor. The techs get in trouble when they try to install both cards at once.

No matter what you need to re-run guided setup after the cablecards are installed, so as the others said, take it out and play with it.

If nothing else you can make sure you don't have any problems with the box before your installer gets there :).

also make sure you have all your updated software 8.3

This was exactly what I did and I have Fios in Dallas. This lets you play with things a bit and lets the software catch up with the current version (I'm assuming you will go ahead and put it on the network). Go for it.
