View Full Version : How do I stop external DigiBox having priority over TiVo tuner?

Hi

I have a Sony Digibox connected to my TiVo which most of the time is fine. Except when the weather is very hot or rainy and the digital reception falls apart.

Anyway I set a season pass for a series on ITV1 which is on channel 41 in my area.

Tonight I found it had automaticaly chosen ITV1 on the digibox instead of the aerial channel 41. And of course tonight the digi signal is terrible! :mad:

I dont understand why it chose the digibox when I explicitly set the season pass for ITV on Ch41!

Is there a way I can stop it doing this?

Has anyone else had this happen?

Thanks for any info.

Tivo will always choose the channel with the best quality signal. The only way to stop this is to only have one of every channel with the same call-sign (ie ITV1LON or whatever) selected in "Channels I Receive".

Tivo will always choose the channel with the best quality signal.Actually, it will always choose the source which it assumes will have the best quality signal. i.e. A poor quality digital channel will be chosen in preference to a good quality analogue channel.

Thanks for replying guys.

Strange that it has never happened on any season passes I have set for the terrestrial BBC channels. Maybe the call-signs are different. I'll have to check them.

Assuming that it always correlates the same call-signs is there a way to manually modify them to stop this happening? I'd rather not have to take them out of the channels I receive if at all possible.

Thanks again.

I sit corrected :)

Sorry, but that's the only way that I know of.

The same channel id existing both in the channel list connected through the AV and the channel list connected through the RF will cause Tivo to always choose the AV version as stated above.

Assuming you have hacked & networked you tivo, I wonder if you could use the "customize channel" module to rename one of them (either the RF or the AV version) so tivo thinks they are different channels???

You would of-course have to make sure the season passes were then setup for the RF version when necessary.

Thinking about it though, if you change the channel name using this module, would that mean the guide data would not be populated for that channel!?!?!

Hmmmm...

I don't think you can rename them via the customize channel module, but it's not too difficult via the tivosh. I recently had to do it with my unsubbed Tivo to get a FiveUS in the list.

Thanks Stephen

Ive not heard of tivosh before.

Any suggestions on the best place to learn about using it?

I bought a cachecard some time ago but still havent got round to fitting it yet. Can I access the required area via ethernet using TivoWeb or similar?

Thanks for any info.

I've got the commands on my PC at home, I'll dig them out when I get back.

Ok, got home and found my notes...

First, in the MFS explorer, find a suitable candidate to change, e.g. for my example I used this, as I was never going to watch the real channel:

Station 650766/11 {
ServerVersion = 17
TmsId = 24763
Name = {18 Plus Movies 1}
CallSign = 18PLUS1
Country = Unknown
Affiliation = BSKY
DmaNum = 0
LogoIndex = 65536
AffiliationIndex = 12
ServerId = 88771
Version = 1
IndexPath = /StationTms/24763:9ee0e /Server/88771
}

The key numbers are those in bold. Then run the following from the telnet prompt using the dbset program.

e.g. mine changes this channel to ITV2P1

./dbset 650766/11 CallSign ITV2P1
./dbset 650766/11 Name ITV2P1

Then use the channel mapper to move it to the correct channel number.
