BuzzDash poll: Cable DVRs vs TiVos

I just stumbled upon a poll at BuzzDash.com today regarding cable-company branded DVRs and TiVos:

The poll asks "If you have used both, do you prefer cable-branded DVRs or TiVo?", and at the time of this posting, most people have voted that they prefer cable-branded DVRs!

This got me thinking: have there been any professional surveys done on this topic? As someone that has ONLY used TiVo, I have no basis for comparison, so I was curious as to whether this amateur survey was representative of the real public opinion.

9 people (including me) have voted. I don't think that the numbers are too meaningful (and don't get me started on the unscientific nature of internet polls)...

Well there are now only 10 votes and half of them are for TiVo.

Anyhoo, my question still stands: any other surveys been done on this that are statically valid?

hmm, seems the results have suddenly skewed back to in favor of TiVo. wonder what happened to cause that :p

That is because very few of those that use DVR's have even heard of a Tivo unit.

About 80% of DVR users use their Providers (Cable, Sat etc) in house DVR's and are happy with them. Only a few have used both, and can compare them.

I for one have used Tivo, Directv and the Directv/Tivo DVR units. When comparing them all, the Directv/Tivo DVR provides the best options, features etc.

Perhaps the Tivo Standalone units will slowly die off, as Tivo partners with others. A bad thing? NO. Perhaps one Day we may see Directv/Tivo units return, along with Comcast/Tivo's, Cox/Tivo's etc :D

We've had TiVo since about 2000 or so and also a couple of cableco DVR's for short periods (Cox, SKY and most recently Comcast).

TiVo is far superior to any cableco DVR we’ve ever had in our opinion.

That is because very few of those that use DVR's have even heard of a Tivo unit.Very true. Several people we've talked to said that they too had TiVo. Later we came to find out that they actually had a cableco DVR. There are even some cableco employees that refer to their DVR's as "TiVo".
