Hey All,
We are going from Direct TV to Comcast as we move, and just ordered a Series 3 yesterday, to take advantage of the rebate. We are scheduling an installation, and I have one question for you. I see many references to "Paired" cablecards, but I have been able to find an explanation of what that is. So what are "paired" Cablecards? If they are not paired, what happens during the install?
Thanks in advance for the info.

It's part of the install process. As you may know, cable cards are small devices which you put into the back of your S3 (or other device). During the pairing process, the card, your TiVo and the cable system are all joined.
The information for the cable installer is available in the instructions included with your TiVo.

That is the Cable Co. problem if its even a problem, if your Comcast installation went like mine you do not have to know anything about "paired", as my Series 3 worked after the tech left.

So the pairing is not something that they do beforehand. They just bring some cards and we hope they follow the instructions and pray it works, correct? I have no experience with cablecards. Been with Direct TV since the mid 90's. All we have to d is tell them 2 cablecards for the tivo and that 's it.

Pairing happens once the cards are in the TiVo.

Pairing occurs when they feed the numbers from the TiVo (that identify each cablecard slot) to the cable headend computer, so the system can authorise the cablecard/slot for programming, and also marry the card(s) to your account (if the cards aren't attached to your account beforehand).

Heh... You might want to request that they bring extras... My install went fine with Verizon but I know that some here have needed to get a few replacement cards before they were 100%.
