I want to record all episodes of a particular PBS show that air on several different PBS channels that I receive, but I'd like to record them in HD whenever possible.
One of my favorite PBS shows is "Secrets of the Dead." My Time Warner cable in Los Angeles has an HD PBS channel, and 4 different non-HD local PBS channels. The HD PBS channel only airs new and recent episodes of the show, while the local PBS channels air older episodes. I want to get all the episodes, but when an episode is in HD, I want the Tivo to record it in HD instead of standard def. In other words, I'd like the Tivo to always choose an HD airing of a show if it is available; but if it's not, it will record it in SD. What's the best way to accomplish this?
Here's what I did, but it seems sort of clumsy, and I don't know if it will work: I have 5 different season passes for "Secrets of the Dead." The first one, with the highest priority, is on the HD PBS. The other ones, which immediately follow the HD one in priority, are each on the different SD PBS stations. All of these 5 season passes are set to record repeats and first runs. I figured that since the HD season pass for the show is higher priority than the others, it should catch the show in HD first, but if one of the SD PBS channels airs the show before the HD channel, then I think I'll get it in SD instead of HD. So it may not work.
Will this accomplish what I want to do? Anyone have a better way to do it?
I wish the Tivo had a feature to do this easily. Something like: "get all episodes of this show on all available channels, but record it in HD whenever possible."
