Installer keeps telling me I don't have the latest system files. Weird, I have all Xp Sp2 patches since last week installed. tried an earlier version, same problem. Installer asked do I want it to update the files, "yes" gives no files downloaded and it askes for a reboot.

suggestions?

Make sure that both your TEMP and TMP environment variables are set to valid directories on your local hard drive. (Check under Control Panel -> System -> Advanced -> Environment Variables). If it still doesn't work after restarting your system during the install, ether look for wininet.dll in the TEMP directory or extract it from the install CAB. Place it in the \Program Files\TiVoPlayList folder and register it by doing Start -> Run -> regsvr32 "\Program Files\TiVoPlayList\wininet.dll"

Of course, it could be some sort of registry/permissions problem, even if you are using an admin account. Take a look at this site and try following the directions exactly:

Ive used this before and loved it on friends tivos etc... but I havent used this for a while... I know with the 540s the "overhead" is low and you have to put the system overhead int othe playlist to get a good calc on space left etc... anyway whats the overhead on a DT unit since your now playing with two tuners etc...I would guesstimate about 15% for overhead, but really don't know. My best suggestion is to lowball your disk size (just enter 0gb) and with repeated use of TiVoPlayList over time it will zero in on your disk size.

Of course you need to let your TiVo fill up and start overwriting old recordings by itself, don't try and keep it empty by deleting shows yourself. shows you want to keep mark as 'Keep Until I Delete' or at least set the keep until date into the future. It comes in handy being able to scan down the list and know that the lowest yellow exclamation point will be the next show to go!

I've been looking for an alternative to T2G and Galleon, as neither seem to work with Windows Home Media Center. I'm now downloading my first program with TiVoPlayList. Install and setup were very easy. The download seems to be slow - about half real time (program recorded at high quality on S2DT). Is this average? If it is slow, is there a way to speed it up? The TiVo I'm copying from is connected to the router with a cable. Would a wireless connection be faster?

I get anywhere from 800KB/s(when other programs are recording on the tivo) to 1400 KB/s.

How do I find that out?

Just for perspective, my downloads are slightly faster that real time (1 hour show recorded at medium quality takes 53 min.) on a wired network.
I think the quality you record at does affect how long it takes to transfer a file.
A wired network, I think, would be faster than wireless.
Transfer a show recorded at medium quality and see if it compares to my estimates.

...
I guess by comparison, downloading a high quality recording at half real time isn't so bad then. Thanks. for the info.

So far I'm very pleased with TiVoPlayList. I thought Galleon was easy, but for just copying programs from the TiVo to the computer, this seems much easier. What I haven't figured out yet, and maybe there's no way to do it, is how to see what's on the computer and copy it back to the TiVo. As I'm running Windows XP Home Media edition, I can't get either T2G or Galleon to work, which is what got me to try TiVoPlayList in the first place.

I downloaded the application and it is asking me for a user name and a password for the ip address. Huh? I didn't need that when I set up TiVo desktop.

I've tried to search for this info on my TiVo and at TiVo Central but I'm coming up empty. Can anyone clue me into what it is I need to look at to give this info?

Bump this up to the top as I'm still looking for an answer. Is there a way to copy the programs back to the TiVo using TiVoPlayList? T2G and Galleon are out as neither of them seem to work with Windows XP Home Media Edition.

Nope.

Use Tivo.Net or pyTivo.
