I was wondering if anyone was able to save your tivo recordings to your computer and put them back if you have to swap out a new hard drive?

Yes. When Tivo Desktop is running, you should be able to see your PC in your Now Playing List. You can browse the recordings you have in TivoDesktop and copy them back to your Tivo. It might be a bit time consuming, but it can be done! I would test it first prior to upgrading the drive, just to make sure you know what to expect.

there are options for the command line tool used to upgrade the drive that will copy the original whole drive to the new larger drive, shows and all. This will be much faster and easier than using desktop and a PC.

If you are using a pre-imaged drive from a 3rd party then ask them about a service to do the show copy for you.

The desktop and PC approach will work but will just take considerably longer with more babysitting work by you.
