Hello,

I am a new TIVO user. I have a refurbished Philips Series 1 with 80 GB drive, not sure of the firmware.

I know I can use basic DVR features without a subscription, that is fine with me. I also know I can upgrade the hard drive.

What features will a network card give me? Can I access the TIVO via a webpage or is this just for Series 2? Can I setup a basic NFS file server, or just ftp?

Any chance on loading Linux on the Series 1 and running a Linux based DVR?

Thank you.

No.

I would suggest:
1. Hard drive upgrade
2. TurboNET -or- CacheCard

I recently put a larger hard drive and a TurboNET card into a Phillips for someone and it was a world or difference. Really made a great unit that much more awesome. I was really pleased with the outcome.

After the installation of something like a TurboNET card there are a lot of things you can do with it form there, i.e. TiVoWEB

If you want an NFS file server, there are more effective solutions than hacking a TiVo to do it.

Thank you for the responses. I will research TivoWeb.

I want a file server for maybe 20 GB of files, but I want to use the electronic devices I already have. Don't want to build an old PC for this purpose, nor do I want to spend a few 100$'s on a NAS.

Thanx
