This isnt a question about if i can transfer the lifetime to another box but how would I go about transfering my dad's lifetimed box to my account so that I can get MSD on all of my boxes? He doesent have an online account with tivo

If you and your father live in the same house, no problem. Buy it from him for a dollar, and tell him he can keep using it. Then notify TiVo that you're the new owner of a LIFETIME box.
If you and your father don't live at the same address...
They may eventually realize his box is still phoning home from the same old address and not your address. This will be bad for you. (All boxes on the same account have to be at the same place.)
Makes no difference if he has no "online" account or not. The box must be listed with them in his name. He's got an account, all right. (Unless you registered it in your name from the start?)

Your lifetime unit has to dial-in to TiVo every six month to be eligible for mutli-service-discount for just such occasions as you are trying to do.

ahh ok...well in that case my dad and I do not have the same address and I would have to get a new hard drive for it to even be able to dial in every 6 months

You could try to eBay a similar unit pretty cheap (non lifetime of course) and swap the drive. It might be cheaper than buying a disk image and loading it onto a fresh drive (and easier too).
