I rec'd the TiVo newsletter today, and it refers to a Wishlist called:
Category:Show Types/Season Premieres
I can't seem to create this; the options referred to don't exist. Will someone please slap me upside the head and show me how to do this . . .
Thanks.
Here's a link to the newsletter; scroll down to

Wow...sounds like the folks at TiVo Marketing needs to start utilizing S2s and S3s with Cable....basically where their future is about.

Doesn't TiVo setup GuruGuides for Season Premieres?

Doesn't TiVo setup GuruGuides for Season Premieres? Not all the Summer season ones, AFAIK. Or Fall, either for that matter. If it's not something super popular or being pushed by the networks, you'll never see it. I'd rather have that instead of swivel search, frankly. It's not like they don't know when they're coming if they can provide it for DTV.

I have a WL for "season Premier" and "Pilot". Yesh, the latter gets all sorts of shows with pilot in the title or descrption, but that's things.

Yes, I'm so sorry! My bad! I'm here to take my whipping.
Ouch.
Okay, so yes, you said it perfectly... with a tiny extra tip to try:
From Find Programs, select
Create a WishList search
Then choose Keyword, then use PAUSE for " and enter
SEASON PREMIERE with and end ".
That way, you'll get Season Premieres instead of Four Seasons Hotels, etc.

Yes, we do, but usually more around teh time of fall TV season premieres.
I was suggesting this tip in the newsletter to find new summer shows. :)

Cable guy is coming to my San Francisco pad today!
10 - 2 window. We'll see... ;)
By the way, glad you guys are trying out some of the WishList search suggestions.
I think it's the most under-used incredible feature from TiVo (altho I do love Swivel as well, but when you are clear on what you want, nothing beats a WL search). Please send me your suggestions for searches and I can share those, too.

The good news is, we read your newsletters, or we wouldn't have caught this.
Thanks for responding, as I really thought I was missing something I have always wanted (a "Season Premiere" WL). I have a "Premiere" and a "Pilot" WL, and they catch a lot, but not all.

Not for me. I have dozens of WL. It's part of what makes a TiVo "TV my way". But I agree, it is under-used. When I talk to other TiVo users, they often have no WL.

I also have a ton of Wish Lists, but none are set to auto-record. The problem is one of my top pet peeves with TiVo---there's no way to saw "Yes, I like shows just like this, but don't record this particular show again".
For example, if I set my...umm...Milla Jovovich Wish List to auto-record it would constantly try to record movies that I already own on DVD. There's no point to that. So instead, I just have to go through the list every 10 days or so to see if there are any shows coming up with actors/actresses/directors I like.

The original suggestion in the newsletter is great if you have a DirecTiVo. The stand alones need to have Categories like the DirecTiVos do. (Heck, they used to until they were changed some years back.) We need Categories for Season Premiere and Seaon Finale and Series Premiere and Series Finale.
This request has been made periodically by many different users going back awhile now. I'd be great if you could finally convince the right person or persons that it ought to happen.

It seems crazy that D* Tivos would have more than the Stand Alone Tivo (at least with something that seems so basic).
Anyway, I still love Tivo. To me it would be better for Tivo to add support for digital set top boxes for the Series 2 Tivo and OTA.

Is it a Guide Data thing? Do the DTiVos still use Zap2It, or maybe some other source that has more details that enable these extra WL features?

I think you hit the nail on the head. DirectTV seems to be taking the time to identify premieres and thus a category for it makes sense.
Either TiVo needs to convince tribune media to spend some more time to identify such in the data it sets up for TiVo service (most likely some bucks involved and then on the hook for bad data) or else TiVo could keep putting effort into guru guides. What I hate as a trend I have seen lately, is that TiVo introduces a new feature and then the feature stagnates. I thought guru guides was genius and gave TiVo the power to directly control finding content for its subscribers. Then it is just dropped without anyone taking the time to update it for the summer, as in this example.
TiVo do not be a fox network. Go the whole distance with new features and do not just drop it after a few months.

Although it would have to be a cooperative venture with the D/A STB manufacturers, I hope Tivo is planning for this.
I would hate to be forced to upgrade to an S3. :(

TiVoShanan,
If you have any pull at all with the development folks, please ask them to add the following:A category or sub-category that searches for 'pilot' in the episode title and 'season premier' in the description.
Update keyword wishlists to check the "original air date" field.
Currently, only movie searches check the date field. The rest do not. Hence, we have no way to find Seinfeld episodes from 1996 or CSI episodes from 2005. If keyword wishlists were updated to check the "original air date" field, we could also create a keyword search for "pilot 2007" and "Seinfeld 1996."
Clearly you agree that ability to search for and/or auto-record new shows is compelling enough to mention in the newsletter, so lets see Tivo actually implement that feature in the 8.4/8.5 software!
......I'm here to take my whipping........
I'm in!

This may have been an S1 feature only, but...
Orginally the "Showcase" menu had a sub-menu option for Premieres and Pilots. Was this data entered manually by TiVo or generated?
It was a nice way to highlight programming -- one of the distinctions TiVo used to make.
