Just when you think this show can't get any worse, what does it do? It gets worse.

Not only does the format suck, but the films this week were horrible.

...the films this week were horrible.

Agreed. The only one that I liked at all was Polished, and even that one felt like it took a little too long to get to the point.

I really didn't like Kenny's film. It had little plot, and I found the "music" (a lot of drums and cymbals) really distracting.

Who else saw that the guys kept staring right at Adriana's boobs? Hell, I saw Kenny staring at least 2 or 3 times.

I was too busy doing that myself to notice the others doing that.

Kenny's film was only slightly better than his last one. He definitely is still stuck in his film student mode, using way too many amateur visual effects and trying too hard to be avant garde. There appeared to be a semblence of a plot there... wherein an angel dropped off some flowers for him that made him stop drinking? Hard to tell, because the guy did not edit that properly AT ALL.

Same for the cupid film... the end scene where cupid is upset was not done properly.

Beeline was ok, but the son's acting was really terrible. I wonder if she knew that or if she had the mommy blinders on.

Marty's film was ok, but he should have shown what happened more precisely because I found it a little bit like watching an edited version of a film on a broadcast network.

Polished wasn't as good as the alien barf short.

Remind me what the film was of the guy who got the boot?

Marty's film once again was very Trailer-ish and though I like his style he really does let the style take over the plot/characters/story/etc...

Agreed the show is horrible. Good premise and just is painful to watch. It is amazing how the director of this show has BLOWN IT!

I don't care who wins. And 15 finalists? 1 gone a week. PLEASE! Start with 10 and go from there. Too many people and not booting off the bad one quickly enough.

Polished was pretty good. Other than that, I thought they were all horrible.

I loved seeing Marty Martin tell off Carrie Fisher. You could see she had no idea how to respond, because most people usually accepted her "criticism" without a second thought. Brilliant.

That Marty Martin sure does have an ego. He was the first one to talk back to the judges and challenge their comments. But I guess you do have to have a bit of an ego to make it big time in Hollywood.

Just like so many big time Hollywood studio movies. :) But that's that stuff he wants to make, it seems. So, really, I bet he could be successful at that.

Well, I thought the producers must've heard the outcry from the viewing public and responded by mercifully cutting the "dramatic pauses" and "fake suspense" tactics to a minimum.

I was staring at Adrianna's boobs too much to notice if the contestants were doing the same.

My favorites were "Beeline" (by far) and then "Polished" -- although I agree that it seemed pretty stretched out.

If these are the submission films, then what are they working on between now and the next couple of weeks?

Isn't Kenny "No Film School Dude"? He may be a student OF film, but he ain't no film student.

BTW, he's my pick for getting bumped off next week.

Yeah, he didn't go to film school, which is why he seems to be going through film student growing pains right now. Having not been to film school myself (but having a secret fantasy to go to one some day), I might be giving too little credit to it. It might be the kind of stuff you do BEFORE film school that they deprogram. In any case, I can't remember the last time I saw a movie with such cheap looking photoshop-esque effects like the embossing or color distorting parts of his film.

Like who? Very few movies are succesful in this realm. Sam Ramai used to be one who handled his films like Evil Dead 2 like this but he had OTHER things in it as well. He also progressed and got away from the Camera Gimmicks and let the characters and story take front stage.

Same goes for guys like Queiten and Guy Ritchie who are the guys who make quirky films and such but have so much more than what Marty really has shown. I bet he wins since I think he sucks but still....

I have read this thread twice now and still not watched the show. The discussion has to be better than the show... I am still debating to watch it, but I guess I will suck it up.

I just can't believe this is headed towards any real resolution.

Clearly the screen is just going to go blank in the middle of one of these shows.

I thought Marty would be going for sure - his film was a big bag of suck (or should I say his trailer because it sure had that feel for me, too) and I don't think America will find his cockiness endearing.

Just when I'm thinking that, Kenny steps up and saves his behind. That was his submission film, and he follows it up with Wack Alley Cab??? How is this guy even in the competition, let alone still around.

And I've read the discussion about being able to read a sentence even if the words are not spelled right, but have the correct first and last letter. That's how I see Adrianna. Dramatic pauses, bumbling and fumbling her words, etc. I get the point - or is that 'points' - of her being there, and I'm juuust fine with that! :)

And I didn't see the first season of American Idol, just a clip here and there, but wasn't Seacrest a co-host that season? Did he do any better than Adrianna at this point? Maybe after six seasons, she'll be OK. As long as she still looks good, I'm OK with that (that shallow comment certainly doesn't take into account that the show will be lucky to even finish it's run!).

I really wasn't thrilled with any of the films this week, though "Beeline" was my favorite, followed by "Polished", though that one really did drag out. I seriously think that Kenny should be gone this week - along with, I think, David (or whoever it was) who said that Kenny was the stiffest competition. OY.

Are you guys kidding me? Beeline was HORRIBLE! She proved that she can't cast as her son was one of the worst child actors I've ever seen!

On top of that, the whole thing was creepy, how she was terrified of her kid. Not at all plausible.

Polished was the best of the bunch this week. The next best was Love at first shot, but it wazs so overexposed, I had trouble watching it.

Then Beeline, but only because while it was poorly acted and creepy, it was watchable. The other two were unwatchable. One was a trailer for a bad, cliched action movie, and the other was a stoner's hallucination.

That's probably true... Pi did go a little overboard with the wacky cinematography.

I guess I missed the 'terrified of her kid' aspect. I took it that she was afraid he'd find out who she'd been sleeping with - not that she was arfaid of the kid. I can't think of any part of that that I would consider "creepy".

Yes, but why was she so afraid that he'd find out who she was sleeping with? Because he threatened to kill her lovers! She was terrified of what her son would do. Talk about your Oedipal Complexes!

The only thing I could think through the whole thing was "That family needs some intensive therapy, STAT!"

He didn't threaten to kill them! He said "Who are they?", "I will find them"

That was it.....I will find them is not a threat to kill anyone....I think you read way too much into it. I think it would be natural for a young son to want to protect his single mother.....to make sure that she isn't with someone who would hurt her (or him).

I wasn't that impressed with it either way, but it was definitely better than Kenny's and Marty's submissions.

She still seemed way too fearful to me. She was terrified. If the director was trying to get a different emotion across, she failed. Both me and my roommate thought she seemed like the mother of a serial killer...

I agree that it was still better then either marty's or kenny's submissions.

Edit: It was probably just that she had 2 very bad performances from ehr son and the woman who played his mom. They just were not good. She should go simply for putting her kid in the role when he obviously can't act.

*I'm not trying to put the kid down. Being able to act well at that age is not something that's common

I just watched and wasn't impressed with any of them. Polished had the best story and best acting, but the paciing was just excruciating. Other than that, nothing jumped out. I want Marty to do well because I like him and his films, but it really seems like the short timeframes of the films are cramping his style and if he'd get at least 5-10 minutes, he'd be able to tell a decent story and make it look better than anyone else.

What will be mildly interesting to me is if he moves on, will his next project come off as something other than a movie trailer. His submission film sure had that feel for me, and I think the judges may have mentioned that, too, then his follow-up effort was even more like a movie trailer. And that one was completely intentional because he wanted to "go in a different direction" from what was expected of them.

Ah, who am I kidding - I don't like his cocky attitude! :(

I defintely don't find Adriana ugly.....she is quite attractive....but VERY annoying. Her voice and the way she presents herself is a big turn off. My wife says she is like a wind up doll. She isn't the brightest bulb in the pack....She flubbs her lines, and if it isn't on the tele-prompter, she can't say it. I did notice that from the first show until now, she keeps showing more skin......she started with a full cover dress...then something with a little bit of a neckline, then something showing a bit of cleavage....now a plunging neckline down to her stomach.....if she keeps this up, then she will be naked by the end of the series! :D

The next show will still be submission films. They've only shown 10, and there are 15 finalists. After that, we'll probably see topical films.

(Just finally watched this episode last night)

That was pretty much how I felt about all of those as well. The acting by the child in Beeline made that movie 10x worse than it was. I've noticed a disparity in how people feeling about the films (i.e. some people here and the judges themselves LOVED Beeline, and some (myself included) thought it was awful), and I think I know what it is.

I think there are really two primary criteria that people are judging the films by - cinematography and acting. The judges are clearly more interested in what kind of cuts and lighting and such that are in the film (at least based on their comments about Beeline) than anything else.

I tend to be more interested in the acting - if you can't cast good actors and then make them act well then you're not a good director, sorry. Good camera work and interesting shots help a film but don't *make* a film for me...honestly if a film was well acted it can overcome bad camera tricks, but an awesome looking movie that is boring or poorly acted will not be saved by it's looks. Guess I'm a substance over style kind of person.
