Since we're hitting the summer months, I thought some of you might appreciate the heads up about a sale at Best Buy where lots of Fox shows are up for grabs for $19.99 a season:

I cringe at the thought of all those Buffy/Angel/AD DVDs I bought when they first came out :(

Buffy is not a great deal at $20/season. It has been $100-$120 for the whole series a few times over the past year. Some of the others are a decent deal at that price, I guess.

I could have swore this thread said Megan Fox:

I was excited for a minute there.

Have they always been in WS?

My season one is 4:3, season two is Full-Frame letterbox (1.78:1), seasons three through five are all widescreen.
I remember when this show first aired, it was one of the first shows to broadcast in letterbox format.

How good of a show is "The Shield"?

I'm pretty sure Angel seasons 2-5 are all 16:9 widescreen (anamorphic, not letterbox). The specs on Amazon.com say they are, and I seem to recall the same, having watched them within the past year.
Is it safe to assume that the X-Files sets released in 2006 are the "slim sets?"

First few seasons were quite good, then in the later seasons it became one of the best shows on television.

First few seasons are some of the best ever produced for TV the others are better than most TV so you should get it.

I think it's funny that the last two posts about The Shield were exactly the opposite of each other. :)
It's a great show. Definitely one of the best shows out there. Definitely worth 20 bucks a season.

Futurama on DVD will make a great Father's Day present for my husband.

I had given up on finishing my X-files collection after season 4 when they were being released at $100 per season. I took this as a sign to finish it up with seasons 5-9 at $19.99 thanks to this thread.
Of course I did it in the store, and that means I bought other goodies.. (hint.. toho monsters collection)

Good point, Diana. My local Best Buy had Fox DVDs at this price too. I'm headed back there in a few hours to pick a few up myself.

here's a tip: you can buy online and if they're in stock at your local best buy, you can just pick them up. You don't have to pay tax or shipping.

Amazon had the X-Files seasons for 19.99 back in January. I bought a few and saved a few others in my shopping cart to get later. Within a few weeks they had bumped them up to over $30. So I'll be picking up a few more, too.

If you're correct, then that must work differently in different states (I mean the tax). I have to pay tax whether I do pickup or shipping. I think most stores that are B&M and online have to charge tax for online orders if they operate stores in the state the order is being shipped to. Of course, it may just be my state that requires that, I'm not certain. And it will of course tell you before you submit your order.

I don't think I was charged tax. I got 4 DVDs and it was like $79 something...

Nice deal. I know VA makes an effort to enforce their sales taxes for interstate stuff. We got a bill once for some furniture we had delivered from Hickory, NC. Evidently the truck had been stopped and had the invoices checked or whatever.
I forgot to check last night which seasons I still need to get. Better remember tonight. It IS the slim sets that are the 2006 release dates, right?

That's how it is in Washington State. I had to pay sales tax on my order that was shipped.

In many states you have to pay sales tax anyway..
In this case I also noted before I headed to the store that the X-files sets were all flagged as "sold out" on the web

Only the three "collector's edition" versions of Seasons 7, 8, and 9 were sold out. All nine seasons are marked "In Stock" at the 19.99 price.

Yeah, but it's a helluva deal if you're going one season at a time and reselling them when you're done (I picked up Buffy Season 7 during this sale. Having gotten through 4.5 seasons it doesn't make sense for me to buy the full series set.

ahhh... I was looking for 7, 8, and 9, and as I saw each one marked "sold out" it never dawned on me to keep looking further down the list, I guessed wrong that "season 7 is season 7"
Still was awesome to finish the set!

You are charged Tax if you use Pickup and charged taxes on shipping if they have a physical store located in your state. It's the same with all online retailers.
No store in your state = No Tax
Store in your state = You pay taxes
