View Full Version : Reboots with 6-3d

I just started having reboots with my HR10-250 last Wednesday. Usually in the middle of recording something. Came home on Sunday and it was totally locked up when it should've been recording something. Unplugged it and it began recording once it rebooted, but then rebooted 7 times during the same 2 1/2 program. Does this mean my hard drive is dying? I'm getting ready to do clear and delete everything this week. Will this help if it's a bad sector causing the problems?

Anyone else having problems with 6-3d? It's been SO stable up until now...

Also, I find that the Tivo is putting both tuners on the same channels at times. This has happened several times lately. Once with HDNet when I was having a weak signal on that satellite and last night on an OTA channel with weak antenna signal. Is this a sign of a bad tuner or just because of weak signals? What I mean is, I had one tuner on 2.3 and the other on 13 over the satellite last night. Went back to the TV a few mintues later and BOTH tuners were on 2.3 for some reason.

Thanks!

How full is the hard drive? Have you perused the various other 6.3x threads?

Also, when a TiVo reboots, both tuners will end up on the same channel.

And, it could very well be a failing hard drive.

My hard drive doesn't have much on it at all. Probably less than 20 hours (maybe 4-6 HD and the rest SD). I don't keep much on there at one time.

Yes, I've read several of the other threads.

As to it putting both on the same channel, no, whenever this has happened, the Tivo has not rebooted. Just more of a signal issue, so I thought that might be the problem. Ever since we got the 5 lnb dish in May, we haven't had a stable signal on 119, and our antenna is very unstable a lot of the time.

The first thing to do is try to get your signal issue solved.

OTA can be very tricky because of multipath. And, get the dish realigned.

Is the unit only rebooting when a tuner is tuned to an OTA channel?

We've pretty much given up with Direct on the 119 signal. We've had 3 service calls and none of the times was the guy willing to even try and get a stronger signal on 119. Last two times, the guy claimed it was an issue with trees. No matter how much we argued that we never had any problems with 119 with the 3 lnb dish, they wouldn't even climb on the roof to try and fix it. IF I can get my husband to go up there one of these days, he might be able to fix it (we have an extremely high-pitched roof and he's not fond of heights). As to the antenna and multi-path, we realize those issues. That's one reason we broke down and got the 5 lnb dish and HR-20 - to get locals in HD because we were tired of fighting the wind in our area this spring.

No, it did it last week when I was recording something off of 607 and then apparently locked up while we were away this weekend when trying to record something off of 72 (with a weak signal). Then Sunday, I was recording on 75 when it rebooted seven times. But the signal was strong during that time.

Then I suspect the hard drive is failing. Sorry.

maybe unrelated but my d machine had a rainout yesterday....usually it's pretty good...maybe it's out of align.....but then later i was manually entering a channel number and it didnt take. Tried again then rebooted out of nowhere.

If you never had a problem with 119 on the old dish, and the new one is in the same spot, then someone's just being lazy, IMO. If they at least went back up on the roof and then claimed it was the trees, that's at least reasonable. Just my .02. /s

Is your HDTivo stock or modified? I was getting reboots on 6.3c until I turned off logging that was filling up the /var partition (i think it was var). This did the trick for me.

I've got about 3-4 reboots this past week.

System locks up for about 90 seconds, and then reboots.

My conclusion is that it's as a result of 6.3D
