Cool. I wonder who they'll cast. I'm going to Comic-Con, so hopefully I'll get to see something in person about this.

Well, that can't be right, unless she was already a teenager when she left Krypton...
Otherwise, after 16 years in suspended animation, she'd be, what, 4?

Hmm:
'...and Lana blown up...'
That could be misdirection, or they wanted to focus on the other news, but this sounds like Lana will not be around at least for the start of the season. There was some consensus that the explosion looked too much like a cover for her disappearing in the season finale.

Lana's dead? I might be coming back to the show if that is true. :D

Hey you didn't even have to read the article to figure it out. ;)
Kara, a teenager when Krypton exploded, was sent to Earth by her father, Zor-El (Kal-El’s uncle), to look after her younger cousin. But while in suspended animation she didn’t age and now it’s Clark who must be the mentor.

Ah, I saw a different version of the article without that information!

The version who just landed within the last year or so in current DC continuity DID leave Krypton when she was a teen, and DID spend about 30 years in suspended animation.

“She has all of Clark’s powers and a couple he doesn’t have yet,” Gough teases. “She can fly.
Does that mean she can grow crystals out of her body too?
And it's really about time Clark started flying, especially since he's known he can for a number of years now.
I know they have the "No flight, no tights" mantra but Clark's over 20 now.
He should be flying at this point.

Oh my. Clark's going to have to start flying now.
They should cast Kristen Bell. :D :D :D

Wow, interesting news. It's kind of a shame that it takes guest stars to make the show exciting ("Green Arrow")at this point, but I'll take it.
Can we expect a Helen Slater cameo now? :)

What would have been interesting is if Kara had shown up played by Slater, in a time travel episode.
The adult Kara arrives in the past, to help avert some tragedy that's been haunting Clark all his life.
I have no idea what the tragedy could be in such a story, but it's a moot point now that she's coming as a teen.
Funny to think of the two of them growing up together and no doubt debuting as Superman and Supergirl at the same time.
Or, what if, in this version, SHE goes public first, as a "girl", and he waits a few years before appearing as SuperMAN?
What a twist!

Or, she goes public as Supergirl, get jealous of Clark and his manliness, murders him, has a Kryptonian crystal sex-change operation, and takes on his identity. (The real Clark never COULD fly...) And when Chloe realizes that "Clark" (actually the lesbian Kara) is falling for Lois, yet another woman who is not Chloe, she then murders Lois, has plastic surgery, and takes on HER identity. And they live happily ever after, Chloe not knowing that the reason she's in such utter bliss is that...
ALL ALONG SHE'S BEEN A LESBIAN IN LOVE WITH HER COUSIN!
And they can have Kryptonian crystal-induced fantasies where they're in their old, Chloe and Kara bodies, having passionate steamy sex.
God, I oughta write for television! :D

I finally got to watch the finale in a re-airing and I have to agree with this wholeheartedly.

I have to say, while this might be interesting, it strikes me as pulling the show away from its core AGAIN. By the end of this season, it felt like things were finally back on track. They cleared away a bunch of the detritus, and we were ready to see Clark and Lex go directly against each other, head-to-head, with full angsty motivation. Now? Eh. Back to the drawing board again.
OTOH, if they DO cast Kristin Bell . . . .

The nice part is what she said to Lex...something about "I know how I'd feel if someone had been dishonest with me about the baby..."
She set him up plain and simple. The police came looking for him far too easily.
Lana sent Lex to jail on fake charges, and is in hiding, licking her lips over her revenge.
And of course, Lionel, apparently a good guy for sure now (if what MM said is correct) is going to end up back in control of Luthorcorp.
This will naturally lead to Lex murdering him after getting out of jail...just to tidy things up, you understand.

I'm kinda looking forward to the Supergirl stuff. :) Maybe she can teach him to fly by the end of the series.

I think that the 90's Timm-Dini Superman animated series had the best sequence of Clark figuring out he could fly.
You actually shared Clark's joy at learning he could fly.

I don't know. 22 episodes of nothing but Clark v. Lex might be a little too much. I have no problem with them bringing in another character from the DC universe. As long as she's not Lana, I'm very cool with it.
And as I said in the finale thread, I can pretty much guarantee that they want us to think Lana's dead, so she'll be absent from the first several episodes of the season, causing Lex's hatred for Clark to grow even more, and then she'll reappear part way through the season, drama will ensue and then she'll probably be killed for real, which will be the final nail in the coffin of the Clark/Lex friendship.
As far as Kristen Bell, sure she's hot, but I'm not sure I could buy a 5'1" Supergirl. She'd look so out of place next to Tom Welling.

Isn't "Tremendous bit" one of those oxymorons?

This is good. Ausiello at TVGuide.com actually addressed the "Internet rumor" that Kristen Bell was being cast as Supergirl! He said it was highly unlikely, since it's a supporting role and she's got much better offers on the table. :(
So I'm not the only one out there who had that idea.

Supergirl is coming to the CW's Smallville. Canadian actress Laura Vandervoort just got the call Wednesday that she has been cast and will start shooting with Tom Welling, Michael Rosenbaum and Aaron Ashmore next week in Vancouver.
"She's a combination of beauty, intelligence, a certain warmth, and great attitude," Smallville co-creator Al Gough tells PEOPLE. "We've wanted a character to shake things up. She may be Clark Kent's cousin, but that doesn't mean she's going to be the obedient one!"
Since mid-May, when DC Comics approved of introducing Supergirl to the Smallville series, creators Gough and Miles Millar have seen hundreds of actresses for the part but found perfection in Vandervoort, 22, of Toronto, who may be known to fans of the cable series Instant Star as Sadie Harrison. "She was speechless but she was very excited," Gough says of Vandervoort's reaction to the news.
Supergirl will be introduced to viewers as Kara, Clark's cousin, who was born on Krypton and has all of Clark's powers plus the ability to fly. Watch for her to spark romance with Jimmy Olsen (Ashmore) as well.

Please PLEASE God, don't make her a teen rebel who enjoys partying, Earth's rock music, and to abuse her powers for self gain!
Clark to Kara: "We have a responsibility to these people and we need to remember our heritage...(blah blah blah)."
Kara: "Whatever Clark. You need to loosen up. Let's have some fun!" WHHOOOSH!
In other words, don't make her a "Red Kryptonite Clark." Not even a mild one. PLEASE!
P.S. I'm not even remotely surprised that the actress chosen is a Canadian.
