Anyone having success changing channels using an S2 along with Verizon Fios? I'm currently using the IR cables, but occasionally the Tivo doesn't change the channel properly and the wrong channel is recorded. I've tried the serial cables, but my Tivo indicates that it's unable to utilize the serial port. Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

Make sure the IR emitter is placed correctly in front of the FIOS box and that the correct remote code is being used.

You can try the process described in the thread below. I'm currently using the 2500 STBs with my SageTV HTPC and IR Blasters but I'm not really going to bother with trying it because Verizon is coming out tomorrow with the CableCARDs for my new S3...

Some people have had success by putting their cable box (in your case, the FiOS box) and the IR blaster into a sealed enclosure where it can get some air, but no light.

This tends to make sure the IR sensor on the box sees nothing but what comes out of the blaster and can't misread the flashes, since there's nothing else to mess with them.

I'm having trouble with the guided setup right now and the IR blasters. They work on my Fios box upstairs with a v8.3 Series 2 TiVo, but the v7.2 or whatever this one is (just used InstantCake for a new drive) won't work. Maybe I need an upgrade before it'll work.

*edit*

I'm seriously having a rough morning. It wasn't working because i had the IR blasters plugged into the exact same 1/8" minijack on the back of the FIOS box labled "IR" as well. HAH! Did the STB reset anyways, so I'll try it out.

Okay, I've got the serial port to work now. However, I do have a new problem. The Fios channel banner sometimes doesn't disappear once recordings begin. Therefore, the Tivo records the Fios banner and it takes up about a third of the screen. Anyone else having this problem???

Have you tried turning off the banners on the STBs? That's what I did on mine back when I was using SageTV and a pair of the 2500-3 boxes.

Sounds like a problem with the FiOS box, not with your TiVo.

Hi.

I have FIOS near Tampa Florida. I just did the procedure in the first message (calling FIOS and asking them to reset my boxes using the voice prompts) and sure enough the Serial Ports are now working for my TIVOs. Pulling the power cords did nothing.
