I had all my privacy levels set to high. I did not want tivo monitoring things I watch.

Then I got the request to sign up for homes.tivo.com

which turned all of the settings I worked hard to change off.

And after several months, homes.tivo.com hasn't included me in any programs.

I really think this is used to turn back off the privacy settings, so Tivo can make money.

Seems just not right, I calling tivo back on monday and changing my settings back.

Has any else noticed this? and did it bother you?

What kind of programs were you expecting to be a part of? Why would being included persuade you to let your guard down?

I don't understand why someone this opposed to being "monitored" would allow "monitoring" for any reason, much less a website that doesn't even look like it's actually part of the Tivo.com website.

Personally, I don't care if TiVo prints everything I ever watch in every newspaper across the country. What I watch on TV is not a BFD.

I signed up for TiVoAdvisors, which required a change to my privacy settings. I got bupkis.

As long as no spam or junk mail I see no issues either, has anyone gotten spam or junk mail as a result of lower privacy settings? The lowering of the settings had better have been in the agreement you clicked on, but I bet it was. I see no harm in them totalling up viewerships as it means things you like to see will be helped to be on more. Remember too they really only know what you record, the live TV is on 24hrs. So it is not as intrusive as you might first think.

As long as I do not get Spam then I am happy.

Tivo can print every single Porn program I watch! :D LOL.

Your mistake was getting involved in the first place.

You should know there's no such thing as a free lunch.

These people are most likely agents of a foreign power who are only finding out what you like to watch so they can send an undercover man to take over your identity and continue watching all the same shows so your neighbors and relatives won't realize anything's wrong.

In the meantime you'll be locked up in some cold damp cell in a third world country, barely surviving on cornmeal and insects you catch, and tortured each day so as to reveal more and more of your daily routine so your replacement will get his act down pat.

Later, there'll be scones.

Tivo makes money from directed advertising, if we all turned on Privacy they would be losing money!

I'm sure they sent out this Homes request to everyone which had privacy turned ON.

1) did you have privacy turned ON
2) did you get invited to Homes?
3) did you get your privacy turned OFF?

and

1) can you be a part of Homes with privacy turned ON ?

Yah, I did not expect much though. Just a way for TiVo to make some money nad perhaps end up lowering our sub rate.

so what does homes.tivo.com promise if you sign up?

I don't know. I've been a member for a few months but I yet to understand why I am a part.

There are no programs to join, and the forums don't say much.

I really think it was to just turn off my privacy.

I don't know.

I've already stated:
I don't understand why someone this opposed to being "monitored" would allow "monitoring" for any reason, much less a website that doesn't even look like it's actually part of the Tivo.com website.

And now it's even more perplexing because you don't even know what you were doing when you signed up.
If you don't even know what if anything you should be getting out of something, how can you complain about not getting it?

It's reasonable to expect that homes.tivo.com is in some way affiliated with tivo.com.

tivo.homes.com would be another matter.

Today I got a link to a survey.... the first screen asked if anyone in my household worked in certain industries. Once I answered that I work in the retail food/supermarket, it took me to the name/address/e-mail for a free entry to win a TiVo HD.

Did anyone else get the survey today? What were the questions on the next screen(s) if you answered no to all the work questions?

It asked if you ever viewed advertising info in the Showcases or Yellow Stars, then asked a BUNCH of questions about artificial sweeteners, particularly Splenda. It was a little strange.

There have been quite a few Splenda yellow stars and movies lately.

What it "TiVo Homes?" I went to the URL and tried to sign in, but no go and no link to information!

Years ago, there was a brouhaha about TiVo's collecting viewer data, and I wanted (as I do now) to be included! I figure if MY watching something will help it stay on the air a la a Nielsen rating, I want my information shared! I had to go to TiVo to be sure that I was included. Is that what TiVo Homes is about?

Do I need to sign-up again?

FWIW, last line on my System Information says:

"Opt Status: OptedIn"

Is that relevant? If not, what is it about? (I will go look for explanations for the System Information but will appreciate any links to info.)

Thanks.
