Folks, I recieve d a Sony STR-DG810 AV receiver as a birthday gift last month, and I have to admit that I find its documentation incomprehensible.

The HDMI I/O works fine: the AV receiver switches my DVD player and my DirecTV 10-250 via a single HDMI cable connected to a Samsung 56" DLP. T

The problem is how/where to connect my two SD DirecTivos.

Foolish me, I assumed that all SD composite inputs would be output on the Sony's HDMI output.

If this is an inappropriate topic for this forum, I'd appreciated help via direct message or a pointer to an suitable online forum.

Thanks

Generally speaking, whatever is input, you have to have the same output. So if you have composite coming into the av receiver, you have to have composite output going to the tv. If you have s video coming in, you have to output s video to the tv.

More and more of today's new receivers (see the new line of Onkyos) can up-convert all inputs to output via 1 HDMI cable, but I don't think your Sony is one of them. If you use S-video to input your SD Tivos, you'll have to use an S-video cable to output to your TV. The receiver will work as a good way to switch your sources back and forth though. A good source of information is AVS Forum.com
