View Full Version : Unbox: program not found on source

I ordered an episode of "My Name is Earl".
In my recording history, it looks like it tried to download the movie five times but couldn't because of the following error code:
"Not Downloaded: This program was not downloaded onto this DVR because it was not found on the source."
Has anybody else encountered this error before?
I should add that Swivel search, TiVoCast, and transfers to/from my TiVo & Mac are all working fine.
Man, I hope amazon didn't just start filtering out Canuck IP addresses...

Call Amazon. They should be able to fix it.

Same thing here. Contacted Amazon, who told me it's Tivo's problem. Call Tivo. Trying to get rid of that message for weeks now. Very frustrated.

Any update highwire? I'm still getting runaround by both parties.

I'm afraid not. The CSR I talked to didn't understand how to provide me with a refund for an item that wasn't physically shipped to me and he couldn't tell whether or not I actually received the program. In his defense, he did admit he was new and didn't understand how Unbox works.
I have some free time Thursday, so I'll try again then.
Fun huh?

I'm also trying to download two episodes from Amazon Unbox (Studio 60) from a Canadian IP address and I'm getting the same message as you. I've even tried using the "static IP address and explicit DNS" settings that other postings have recommended, with no luck.
I wonder if they're using geolocation software to prevent Canadian IP addresses from downloading content?
Let me know if you get it going...

Here's a quick update that's quite telling: I installed the Amazon Unbox software on my PC to try the same downloads to my PC. When I attempted to download, it got an error saying "You are not authorized to download this video from your current location. Due to licensing restrictions, Amazon Unbox videos can only be downloaded to computers in the US".
So they must be doing IP address geolocation. Bummer!!

I have the same problem. Despite my S3 using Buffalo zip code for ATSC guide data, Amazon using my San Francisco address and a U.S. credit card, my TiVo being physically located in Toronto seems to have disabled this function. Damn! I was hoping to find a loop hole.
This didn't stop Amazon from charging me for the two movies I purchased/rented.
Anyone know if/how we can get a refund?
I hate being a second classs citizen. I want to purchase/rent movies online. None of Apple, TiVo, Microsoft or Sony yet make movies/tv shows available for me to pay for through my various devices. And they wonder why BitTorrent continues to thrive!!!
Update: ON July 10, Microsoft annoucned at E3 that they'll be making their iVOD to the 360 service available to Canadians and Europeans by the end of the year. Whupp, whupp, Hooray!!!

LOL - we have to be US citizens before we can be second-class US citizens! I was afraid they'd be smart enough to block content based on geographical location and it looks like they have. The "terms of use" on Amazon Unbox make it clear that the service is available only in the US. We are stuck. Sucks to be us.
BTW, I never got my refund and I'm too lazy to go after $4 US.

Hi folks -- sorry, but Amazon has strict controls (imposed by the requirements of the rights-holders) on where the Unbox content can be distributed. As you've seen, geographic-based IP filtering is being used.
I recommend users with boxes located in Canada or anywhere outside the 50 U.S. states plus Washington D.C. NOT try to download content from Unbox.
If you did try and received this error, please contact Amazon to inquire if they will issue a refund. The best way to contact Amazon is to go to http://www.amazon.com/ and then click on Help (in the upper right) on any page, then click on the "Contact" link (on any help page in the right column, near the middle). Issuing refunds is at Amazon's discretion.
Best regards,
Stephen

It is a shame I have the same problem, I do not understand how Amazon, will sell the DVD to any other country but not the digital download. with the DVD you are able to make a better copy and with TIVO it os 99% secure is just for you and your family.
