View Full Version : War in Iraq/Afganistan shows
In the last episiode of the sopranos they showed aj flipping to a show that depicted soldiers fighting against insurgents.
That reminded me that I would mind watching such a thing. But I checked out discovery/tlc/a&e and didn't really see anything. Looking for these 1hrish documentary style shows ont he current conflicts.
Any ideas?

I've seen a bunch of these types of shows about these wars but they've all been on The Military Channel. There may be a chance of finding something like this on History International.

There is a Pentagon channel too, never seen it but I would sure expect such things there. Anyone seen it and can tell us? Dish has it, and I have Dish, but not that satellite.

National Geographic has been airing a special called "Inside the Green Berets" a few times this week. It's scheduled to re-air on the 12th at 7pm.

You might check out the show FRONTLINE on PBS. They usually have a good array of programs related to the conflict. (Though none are scheduled at the moment>)

Around 2003 or so, ABC had a show called "Profiles from the Front Line" where they followed around small units of the military in Afghanistan. They followed around a Delta Force unit way out in the middle nowhere, and also a couple squads of "regular" army. I found it absolutely riviting, especially the Delta Force guys. But the show only lasted 4 or 5 episodes and then quietly disappeared. I remember it was originally supposed to go a full 13 episodes (not just six like the article I found below suggests). I just googled it and found this article about it : Profiles from the Front Line (http://www.northjersey.com/page.php?qstr=eXJpcnk3ZjczN2Y3dnFlZUVFeXkyNzImZmdiZWw3Zjd2cW VlRUV5eTYzNDY0NTcmeXJpcnk3ZjcxN2Y3dnFlZUVFeXk5)
The following is a really interesting article I remember reading in Rolling Stone a couple years ago. It's about the difficulties the journalists have in Iraq and provides insight into why we see or don't see certain things.
Rolling Stone: "The Baghdad Follies" (http://www.rollingstone.com/news/story/6186837/the_baghdad_follies)

I'm pretty sure Frontline is the show AJ was watching.
