I have a Netgear 624 4 port wireless router and am having problems which I believe is due to the 4 ports not being enough.

Everything was just fine when I just had a Vonage adaptor (wired) an alway on PC (wired) Tivo 540 (wired) and Tivo S2DT (Tivo wireless) and occasionally my laptop (wireless).

But THEN I added a 2nd always on PC with a security camera card pretty much dedicated to network streaming the cameras. Actually it was working (after a bit of effort) as long as the 2nd PC was wired, except that the wireless Tivo ofter had connection problems.

Then I had to relocate the 2nd PC and used a wireless 108G Netgear card which works ok for internet but is kinda slow for the camera feed.

So I'm not sure how to proceed. Is there a way to hard wire the Tivos together and then wire from the 1st Tivo to the PC and then by running a 25' patch cable from the (current wireless) PC to the router avoid the port conflict? Or will all the MAC addresses STILL cause me trouble?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Simple solution - connect a 4 or 8 port ethernet switch to 1 wired port on your wireless router. Restart your wireless router and switch and you're all set.

Thanks for that. I wasn't sure if I could just connect a 2nd router or not.

Unfortunately I have discovered the real culpret is that my router keeps changing the IP address of that computer, which in turn causes the port forwarding server addresses to be wrong because they don't change.

And I haven't a clue how to stop the router from changing the addys.

Set a static IP address for that PC which is outside the DHCP range for the router. You may have to change the router's DHCP assigned IP range.

Ok, I am giving that a try. I have no idea what it wants for the subnet mask. 255 in all the boxes isn't working, so it probably is the wrong value for those boxes.

Also, what am I looking for in the Gateway IP Address

Destination IP Address I have 192.168.0.x

Whatever number I put in last, when I save it I find the last number as 0.

IP Subnet Mask I have 255.255.255.0

Gateway IP Address I have 192.168.0.1

Metric I have tried 2 and 3. Currently only have the 1 router but may add a 4 port wired router later.

So what am I doing wrong?

Again, thanks!

Don't put another router in the system--causes problems. Use a switch insted.
