Surprised no one has mentioned Kathy Griffin's 3rd Season Premiere of My Life on the D List and her new Bravo Stand up Special "Everybody Can Suck It"

This is one funny lady that you should be watching if you aren't :)

I suppose she's not for everyone - but she sure cracks me up!

I'm so glad someone started this. I was going to, but didn't have a whole lot to say yet. She just continually cracks me up. She is my idol! I actually started crying with her though when she was talking about her divorce. That was a tough moment, but it was necessary for the viewers to understand a little more I guess.

I saw the first ep recorded but haven't watched it yet. THanks for the heads up on the new Bravo special - I will have to look for it.

I love Kathy Griffin.

A friend scored tickets for us to see her next month yesterday. I can't wait.

I do have to admit though that for the first time ever, I had to ffw through her "everybody can suck it" act. I love everything she says/does and how irreverent she is about it, but the joke with GD*** over and over (the joke about her mom) was too much for me. I cringe when I hear that, so it was tough to sit through. But ffw through it, and it was awesome again. She is awesome! (And who in their right mind would bring their 13yo child to one of her shows?!? Yikes!)

I'd seen most of that material in person so I FF'ed thru the special a lot. But I loved her show! So glad this is back!

I haven't seen the show yet, but WTF is GD***?

G'Day? Was she making fun of australiians?

I'm bad at crossword puzzles too. :)

I really like her but that was the least funny part of her act. We've seen her mother on the show for two seasons now. I can't picture her mom swearing like that.

Another word for "Gosh Darn" ;) It's the only curse word that I physically cringe at.

Different strokes for different folks - I laughed hysterically through the entire GD*** section. Maybe it's my Catholic upbringing?

After all the wine? I can!

Yeah. Put me in the camp that thought the "GD" stuff went on way too long. I was wondering how they were going to deal with the divorce aspect and I thought she handled it about as well as anyone could have. That type of life has got to be hard on a marriage. Can't be easy to find any type of balance. Still I'm glad to see Kathy is getting through it and I do enjoy her so much. I think she's one of the most naturally funny people on TV.

I have made swearing a hobby, and have several well-rehearsed litanies of consecutive profanities that roll off my tongue frequently, often in a sing-song voice of frivolity and bemusement.

I love swearing. Sometimes it's difficult to control the volume of my whispered curses in my cubicle. I have been heard accidentally.

I'm guessing you don't have small children living at home? :p

I was just watching "The Soup" and Joel mentioned that Kathy's dad passed away since the last episode. I don't know when it happened, but was afraid that's where things were heading when she mentioned his failing health on the show. I feel so bad for their family. She's been through a lot lately...I just want to reach out and give her a big hug.

He died on February 17, the day before Kathy was supposed to leave for Rosie's cruise. Since this week's ep took place sometime in January and they've already mentioned the cruise several times, I think it'll probably be incorporated into the show somehow. I saw her in concert in March, and she didn't really talk about her father at all, even when doing the long GD bit about her mother. I think she was still pretty broken up about it.

Here's my partially contrarian opinion: I kind of like her, the person, as presented through the show, but I have never really enjoyed her stand-up.

One of the reasons is that her act relies almost entirely on pop culture references. I worked at a comedy club for 8 years, and did every job from barking to bartending to managing and booking, and one of things that stays with me is something I learned at the door, trying to talk passers-by in.

There was a guy who walked by our club almost every night, and every time I would try to talk him into buying a ticket; well, eventually, we reached a detente, and would chat, but he wasn't inclined to come in, and he said it was because he didn't appreciate scatological material, and, he didn't have a TV, so he didn't think he'd get the references.

As a door man, at the time, working on commission, that gave me a greater appreciation for comics that had an ability to work with less reliance on those touchstones, TV and scat. (which, of course, handled well are still as funny as anything)

There's a way to set-up a joke that relies on TV knowledge in a way that a non-watcher might still infer the meaning, I'm sure, but I digress....

On the positive side, I thought when the show went to Iraq, and she did improv with her buddies, that was cool.

I'll watch almost anything comedy related, because I still try to follow what's going on in the business, but I flip when her act comes on.

Sorry. Back to the love fest, already in progress.

No need to apologize. It's a very interesting perspective. Thinking more about what I like about her act, I think the reason I like it so much is the pop culture references. I love when Hollywood types are called out for their behavior, and Kathy's the queen of that...even when there's nothing to call out. I especially love her making fun of young Hollywood stars (or people who think they're stars) when they really make it easy for a comedian.

I do see how it wouldn't appeal to as wide an audience though, as a lot of people don't keep up with the goings-on in Hollywood. I don't know why it intrigues me the way it does, but I can't look away...like a bad car-wreck phenomenon I guess.

I have a friend who loves her, but he's always commenting that he has no idea who she is talking about most of the time since he's not into pop culture.

Sad to hear about her father. I hadn't realized he had passed. Divorce and death aren't really that funny. On the plus side, I did enjoy the special and the first episode. I was surprised to see my friend's brother Trent on tv. He was the salesman that she did a ride-along with. I remembered him doing the corporate video, but I didn't know that any of it was filmed for her Bravo show.

The guide info for the next episode says that Kathy receives "devastating news" as she is about to leave for the cruise. I assumed that something had probably happened to her father, but I didn't know he had died. :(

I thought the whole swearing segment on the special was hilarious. I think her parents probably edit some of their swearing for the Bravo cameras, or a lot of it gets edited out, but I could totally imagine her mom saying all those things.

I had no idea either. I think her parents were pretty funny.
