I know, this should really go in the TV Talk Ghetto, but it will get many more views here in Happy Hour, and we Mars fans need as many people as possible to read this.

http://www.aintitcool.com/node/32906

Looks like The CW has until June 15th to make a decision on canceling Veronica Mars, and they have never announced that it was canceled. Aint it Cool News yesterday began talking about sending Mars Bars to The CW's President of Entertainment, but the only place he could fine them was on Amazon with $6+ for shipping.

Looks like word got back to the owner of that Amazon store, because he's made a deal available for the show's fans. He's created a discount code "veronica" to order with free shipping. You can order as many bars as you want at $2/bar and set teh shipping address to:
Dawn Ostroff - President of Entertainment
The CW Network
4000 Warner Boulevard, Bldg 168
Burbank, CA 91522-0002.

The owner will box them all up with a letter that says, ""Veronica Mars: More Addictive Than Chocolate! Satisfy our craving for Season 4!" They will also include a list of names of everybody who placed an order and the number of bars they purchased.

You can buy them at the link below. They're $2 per bar, $10.50 for a 6-pack, $19.49 for a 12-pack and $33.99 for a 24-pack.

Update: The store created a Blog about this. They're arranging for 48 master cases to be delivered over 3 days to the CW offices, plus their own stock of 648 bars. They've already sold around half of that amount and this has only been going on since this morning.

http://www.theindianfoodstore.blogspot.com/

They also requested that if you're going to order, that you order directly from their homepage instead of the Amazon link listed on the Aint it cool news website. It's far less costly for them, and I certainly don't begrudge them making a profit.

First post on the Blog:

TheIndianFoodStore - Bars for Mars Campaign -

Wow!

Hello Veronica Mars fans, lovers, and supporters!

UNBELIEVEABLE! That is first thing that comes to my mind when I woke up this morning! At first, I have to admit that I thought it was Ms. Dawn Ostroff's birthday and she must have desperately requested Mars bars from all her friends. Of course, a Google search and a couple of hundred orders quickly cleared up that up! I'll be honest, we've never watched the show before but WOW, we are impressed! Your enthusiasm and support for the show has awed us all! I have been in contact with some of you in the past day or two and I realized how powerful this has become! Apparently, CBS's Jericho had a similar campaign and it worked! I'm fired up to make this work too!

If you are curious, we are a small family business located in Houston, TX that just recently started our online operations. We have been importing from India and England for several years now and primarily distribute to retail stores and grocery stores around the country. We have yet to become profitable in this aspect of our operation, but this publicity will certainly help! More importantly, I am so happy that I am involved in this, especially since I have been able to communicate with so many fans directly. Once things settle down a little, I'll be sure to watch all of the shows in the past seasons!

As we attempt to inform you with updates on the Amazon website, we are calling all distributors we know around the country trying to buy Mars Bars. (We had to raise the prices $.20 just to reflect this, so we apologize for this!). I've created this blog to get fans to post their comments and give us suggestions on how we can improve this. We've only got until Monday to make this work since it will take some time for FedEx to arrive to their facility! (By the way, can anyone get a video of the FedEx driver pulling into the CW facility so we can show all the fans?)

Of course, I'd love to hear your suggestions. Leave a message here and I will do my best to reply!

Per Michael Ausiello, Dawn Ostroff said during the upfronts that Veronica Mars is dead. She continued to say that they were in discussion with Rob and Kristen Bell regarding a future project, but that "she didn't think it would happen."

Even if this weren't the case, according to Rob Thomas they no longer have deals with him nor with any of the cast. The sets have been struck, as best as I've heard, and the writing and production crew were released to seek other employment.

I'd love it if would come back in some form - but I don't see that happening, frankly.

You may be right about Kristen, but here's what Rob said to Michael Ausiello, indicating he is no longer under contract with the CW:
"I assume that anything Dawn would be talking about in the realm of a Rob-Kristen project would involve a new from-scratch pilot as they don't have me in a deal, and they'll lose Kristen in a couple of weeks."

Actually, I don't want to get picky about it. This is a discussion about a TV show, and hence should be in the TV Talk area. You said it yourself int he first post. Whether it is about the plot of a TV show, or a campaign to keep a TV show on the air doesn't matter.

It's about a TV show. It belongs in TV Talk.

Of course, if you wish to continue to "get picky about it" I'll be happy to consider this "questioning the moderators" and shut this thread down. If you wish your campaign to continue - I think you need to drop the argument.

1902 Mars Bars. That's every available bar in the US
4200 Mars Corp Snickers w/ almonds, which replaced teh Mars Bar
350 lbs of Marshmallows, because Veronice is called a Marshmallow in the pilot ep.

They also have a sign for each box they're shipping:

Putside of what people have paid for through the Amazon link, there has been $1524.96 donated through the paypal link. I don't think I can post a paypal link here, but the Bars for mars blog has a link:

It currently has 104 Diggs, but because of the jerks burying it, it hasn't hit the front yet. If we could get it on the front, I'm sure they'd get flooded with donations.

Please click the link and Digg the story. Even if you don't donate or even watch the show, you have to admit that this is an amazing effort organized over just a few days.

Interestingly enough, the Mars candy bar company hasn't sold Mars Bars in the US since... (checking Wiki) 2000.

The odd thing - they remain sold in Canada, so it shouldn't have been hard to find someone up there to buy enough Mars bars to ship down here.

They're all British imports made by Cadbury, I believe. Mars Bars are no longer producced for the US market.

There are another 8 cases out there, whivh equals about 1500 bars, that a supplier backed out of selling them. From the blog:

One distributor backs out...well halfway - One of our distributors in Florida has decided to only contribute 4 Mars Bars cases to the campaign instead of the 12 he promised. His reason: "I need them for my other customers". What a joke! Regardless, all of the other cases from New York and Chicago are already on their way. I will post UPS tracking numbers by tomorrow so fans can track the package live! Our Houston stock will go together with the freight truck!

Now that CBS gave in with Jericho, is every cancelled TV show going to be met with the "mail somewhat related crap to network executives"?

I don't understand it. The only people it inconveniences are the already overworked people in the shipping dept who process the junk. Do you really think the bars are being dumped on the suits desks?

I guess this trend will continue every season now. At least the homeless may get some food out of it, but personally I would rather send a donation to a charity like that directly...

Critical and fan support has kept this show alive for three seasons -- two seasons longer than the ratings alone would have done.

I would love to see VM brought back, but I don't think any fan campaigning will have any effect at this point. This seems like such a huge waste of time and money.

Otoh, Kristen Bell (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070608/ap_en_tv/people_kristen_bell;_ylt=AvIeKzb6mb_uK4_ICWLQ8KlX24cA) says there is some small hope that VM could be brought back as a midseason replacement.

The show, which was ratings challenged but a cult hit, was canceled May 17. Bell, though, hasn't given up all hope just yet. The network, she said, has until June 15 to tell the show's producers whether it might be brought back as a midseason replacement.

That was mostly Gilmore Girls. Veronica is kind of like Buffy was - even a bad season of it is better than the vast majority of what's on television. Plus, the last episodes of the season were really good... not first season good, but good in their own way.

It would not surprise me at all if some marketing people got it in their head that every time there was a show being cancelled, they drum up a ground swell of support by way of sending their product to try to save 'your show'.

Sad part is, they would probably get enough people doing it just to boost their sales.

I can't believe the CW, with it's TERRIBLE other shows, would cancel this except for one reason, cost. Did they want too much? Maybe that is the reason. If so, After June 15 it is possible some other network would pick it up. I just saw the dumbest show ever on ABC, called American Inventor. Bad as that show might be, it gets about 3 times the viewers that VM gets. From what I can find VM had a season high when it was opposite the state of the union address this year, and had about 4 million viewers (the average for the season has been about 2.5 million). It seems American Inventor gets around 12-13 million viewers (those could be last years numbers for inventor, but best I could find in a limited amount of digging around).

It's been a nice run, but the reality is that on any other network, 4 million viewers would have the show canceled before more than a couple episodes aired.

Rob Thomas has already started work on his new show Miss/Guided. He says to save your money because VM the TV series is done. I'd say that is pretty final.

Veronica Mars is Dead (http://blogcritics.org/archives/2007/06/11/235200.php)

A comic could be cool. I would rather have a book series not being a comics guy.

Can't believe Rob Thomas is going to have Mr. Demi Moore as a boss now.

Hadn't heard this news, and while I'm bummed about VM, at least Mr. Thomas will be still bringing us some new tv next season. I saw the testing pilot for Miss/Guided back in January, and it's got a lot of potential. Some good actors combined with good writing, well that's a recipe for success.

I'm holding out some hope until June 15th.

Give up yet?

Give up yet?

Do you go to funerals to point and laugh at the family?

I mean, was that really necessary? If you don't like the show, that's fine. That's no reason to be a dick to those who really enjoy it and were not only hoping that it would stay on the air, but putting forth an actual effort to save the show.

I'd only give up now on the CW. She is free to go to all the others AND DON'T FORGET she could syndicate something, no one mentions this. I don't think loss of some of the team would matter as a new network would want to change the mix anyway to draw more viewers. My personal dream, HBO picks it up and adds nude scenes, sort of a new Sex in the City about a girl private detective, maybe paid by FBI to do stuff they could not do officially, and undercover. Add a little of Mission Impossible with her sabotage of the mob' s meetings or something, and be sure to get some nude beaches in there too. I know how to make a hit.

Well, frankly, I'm amused, John. I was a huge fan of the series too... but after the network said "it won't happen" and when Rob Thomas said "don't bother, it won't do any good," that's when to throw in the towel. Even then, the campaign pressed on anyway, moving past optimism to denying reality, in a giantic waste of money (and perfectly good candy bars.)

At least they weren't solicting other fans for money to finance Season 4 of Veronica Mars under an unheard of Canandian producer.

Read up further in the thread. I bought 6 bars.

Your point is valid. However, I took the "give up yet?" as being snarky for the sake of being snarky. For the people who cared enough to try and save the show (which apparently Royster is), it is a solemn time. I felt it was akin to telling a five year old orphan that there is no Santa Claus because he doesn't exist, and since you don't have any parents to give you presents you're out of luck.

I may have misunderstood the tone (highly possible when we're just dealing with short bursts of text), but today is a sad day for me. I joined Veronica Mars late, and was hopeful to see more. Being laughed at for that hope kinda irked me. Sorry about that.

As I was typing it, I heard it with more of a bitter tone. Plus, I hadn't heard anything definitively either way.
