Wow, no thread about this? I guess no one's watching. I had a few episodes backed up, but I finally caught up and watched the finale last night.
So WTF? What happens to Pete? Do the Riches get away? Do they stay? What about the Dale story line? So many questions, so little answers. I guess we'll have to wait until season 2.

I'm really surprised about the neighbor lady offering to help, but I guess they explained her empathy with her gay husband.

Of course Dale kills Pete and the Riches stay and we start right where we left off. I don't know that I'll start watching season 2 as I barely made it through this one.
It would have been much better to let the Riches leave, set up shop in a new city, with new scams and going through it all again trying to live the good life.

Won't Dale want in on the scam though?

I loved season 1 and look forward to season 2. I think season 2 will involve them finding out what happened to Pete and dealing with the fallout. Dale will want in and they'll all have something in common and something to lose if anyone finds out about Pete.

I assumed the only real way out with having Dale off Pete. Now they have to deal with him for quite a long time. They have no reason to leave now, as Dale will still be chasing them. They may as well deal with him in the new life they love.
Having them move on doesn't make a lot of sense to me because the current situation is unique: normal Traveller scams don't have you, as you say "living the good life". Since they aren't cold blooded murderers, they aren't going to find new people to pretend to be.
It appeared to be they intended to take "Grandma" with them, which just doesn't make sense to me. Yes, the children are attached to her but the children aren't stupid; they know what kind of life they lead.
And as always, I will point out that I love it every time someone gets knocked out on TV by one punch. I've never seen it happen live in my entire life. :p

I thought about that too, but it doesn't work since the name of the show is The Riches.
They are kind of stuck there.

Plus, I would miss Hugh! He's one of my favorite characters!

You don't watch enough MMA then. Its rare, but it happens. Although, never as easily as on TV. Lana Lang (smallville) should be mentally restarted by now, with the amount of times she has been knocked out.

They could still be the Riches. No reason they couldn't keep that name and move. I just thing moving is better. I know it's tv and it is not real, but for me, it's easier to take when you are scamming someone for a short period of time. It's much harder to maintain that scam over a long time period and you will get caught. Just for my own enjoyment, I think scamming new people every year would be more fun.
And Dale is definitely going to want in. It will be interesting to see where that might go. That will probably be enough to get me to tune in to the season 2 premier. It appears Dale would rather get in on the deal than kill them now which is much better for the show. As long as they don't just have Dale kill everyone that might find out about the scam.

My biggest problem with the show was the inconsistent writing. Half the time they were the worlds best con artists and the other half they were bumbling though. I enjoyed the show the most when they were successfully pulling scams. That was fun.

Yeah, I tend to agree with ScaryMike.
They need to either be good (which I thought would be what they had to be to get to this point in life), or really inept but it seems they are both. ???
The finale really ended weird to me. It wasn't even like a cliffhanger because the gap is a mile wide, IMO.

I love this show. The finale wasn't my favorite episode of Season One, but it was fine. I think they made the Pete character too sympathetic. He was so pitiful, so pathetic, that you more felt sorry for him than anything else. By the end, I was thinking ill of Wayne/Doug for toying with the poor guy. Then, by the Dale scene... <sigh>
Still, I'll be back for Season Two.

Is anyone always good or always bad at something? I think it's realistic that they would be able to pull some things off and then sometimes get in over their heads or have someone react unexpectedly and throw them off of their game. I get the impression that this kind of scamming is new to them. In the past they were probably pulling one-off quick scams where they did something and then got out of town before anyone knew what happened. Now they have to keep it up for longer periods.

Good point, Grant!
I had just thought that when they were good (and some of the recent scams were fairly elaborate) they were very very good and when they were bad, they were just awful.
All that said, I will still be back for season 2. I do love the show and particularly Minnie Driver.

They need to either be good (which I thought would be what they had to be to get to this point in life), or really inept but it seems they are both. ???You guys seem to be missing the concept. The Malloys are experienced in the small time con, but are now in way over their heads. And maybe they weren't all that good to begin with. Their whole life was lived in a mobile home, Dahlia was in jail for a couple of years, and in the opening con, they had to bribe their way out of an arrest. So yeah, sometimes they might look like they're in complete control, and other times it seems like it will all fall apart at the seams. I find it to be great dramatic tension.

I believe this is the first thread for a Riches episode this season!
it was a good finale...I hope Pete is dead, I was getting sick of his whining...

I wish the show droped the trying to live in the buffer world. I would like to see them living on the road and the scams they pull

That would be a completely different show with a totally different idea behind it to begin with. And there wouldn't be any reason to call it "The Riches".

And they wouldn't be unique characters that way, they'd be pretty much the same as everyone else in the camp. They're NOT the same, and the way the show develops reveals that.

a hammer? That's gonna hurt. Dale can now become everyone's landscaper and steal them blind.

I've enjoyed the series overall. Some I've really enjoyed where they are being "normal" others have stretched credulity a little to far for me to enjoy. On balance I enjoy the show enought to keep watching - as long as Minnie Driver sticks around. :)
Kudo's to Eddy Izzard too, with this show, and his appearance in recent movies, I now think of him more as an actor and less as a cross dressing comedian. :D

Did my TiVo cut off early? The last scene I saw was Dale shoving Pete into the wall, picking up the hammer, and say, "I'm coming."
Anything after that?

By the way I decided to rank my favorite FX shows :
1) Rescue Me
2) The Riches
3/4) Dirt/Nip Tuck
5) The Shield (I don't watch the Shield, I am sure it is the awesomest show ever.)

Hi:
Seems like Journey is a favorite group to for finales (i.e. Sopranos)!
I really like this show.....the kids are great, Minnie Driver and Eddie Izzard really make their characters believable...
I sometimes find myself thinking....how could anyone really do this, but when you think about it, we do believe what are friends, colleagues, neighbors, etc. tell us about themselves, no questions asked. Wayne pretending to be a lawyer seemed a bit outlandish at first, but the show is doing a great job of showing how it has been somewhat possible.
Their scams sometimes work and sometimes don't....when the "buffer" world is too much a part of things, they seem to go awry.....at least for awhile. However, their bottom line scams, different ways of getting out of jams, and their experiences help them get out of big/permanent trouble, at least so far.
Yeah, Dale is likely to hang around I think, but I'm sure he can't be trusted even if he does get "in" on things.
The neighbor is supportive and sympathetic and genuinely know that people aren't always what they seem. I like her character.
Interesting about what might happen with Pete. Don't know there.
I agree with a previous poster...there are some really good shows on F/X.
My faves are
Rescue Me
Nip/Tuck
The Riches
Oh yeah...on TNT, The Closer is pretty good, too.
Looking forward to another year of spending time with the Malloys/Riches to see what Wayne's "plan" is next....

I was beginning to think that they would have befriended Pete enough that he would keep their secret, but since nothing was keeping him in Tampa he would stay with them or nearby. He would annoy the living snot out of them but they couldn't really tell him so.
But now it is possible that Dale kills Pete and takes his identity. And also sticks around.
Either one could be entertaining, though I think I prefer the first scenario.
