Suggestions ?

Did Tivo change the suggestion recording at some point ? It used to record mostly things I had given a thumbs up to but now it seems like it won't record anything I have given a thumbs up to.

Has anyone else noticed this I don't really like it.

IIRC It was changed several years ago. There were quite a few discussions back then. Some liked it the old way, some the new. Many people did not like the old way because after they watched a show they liked they would give it a thumbs up. Several months later TiVo would then record the same program. Pretty much everything recorded back then had a thumbs up. This was good for someone who liked a tv show (e.g. Happy Days) and wanted TiVo to record more episodes as suggestions. It did not work as well when giving a thumbs up to a movie or documentary since TiVo would continually record the same shows (after waiting the requisite 28 days). The new algorithm records shows similar to those that have one thumbs up. This way if you give a thumbs up to a documentary or movie TiVo will then records ones that are similar. This does not work as well for tv shows. In the above example you will not get Happy Days as a suggestion, but you may now get Laverne and Shirley. I preferred the old way, but found a way around the new way. I found that if you give 3 thumbs up to a show it will then record those as suggestions. I now give 3 thumbs up to series I like, but only 1 thumbs up to documentaries and movies that I like. Seems to work okay. Hope this helps some.

Or you could set up Season Passes for the shows you like.

I find that 2 thumbs up will record shows as suggestions, and 1 thumbs up does not. I haven't 3 thumbed up anything, so I'm not sure what that will do. :D

Well I defiantly don't like the new way. I didn't like that it automatically gave a thumbs up to every show recorded but they could have fixed that and left the rest of the suggestions part alone.

I don't mind if it finds some shows I didn't give a thumbs up to but it pretty much won't record anything I tell it I like. Thanks for the 3 thumbs up suggestion that does seem to help. I 3 upped a few shows and it did record some episodes of them so went through and 3 upped everything I had only given 1 to before so we'll see what happens.

The reason I don't just setup a season pass for everything I like is because I like a lot of shows most of which are on cable and or old. Well there are so many I couldn't record or watch them all so how would I pick which to record. I just want there to always be a selection of things I like recorded that I can watch whenever I want.

I wonder if there is someone at Tivo we can complain to it stinks that they just change things that fundamentally change how the device works and I don't get a choice.
