View Full Version : Agreeably surpised by Mode0 performance on my new LCD

Was going to contribute to the other thread but it seems to have gotten out of hand again (hohum).

After all I'd read I was a little worried a few weeks ago when I upgraded to a new LCD (Sony32S2530) and SkyHD box as to how Tivo would perform.

OK it's only a 32" not 42" but I am very picky when it comes to PQ and I will swear that Mode0 actually handles things *better* on this set than it did on the the 28"CRT. I can only guess it has something to do with the way the TV upscales since I doubt the scart output from the HD box is much different.

I used to be able to tell a slight but noticeable difference between Tivo and Aux. The difference is still there but is very marginal indeed.

Phew! Even though the Tivo is now relegated to a Freeview box, I can still enjoy most of my SD shows in even better PQ than before.

I guess it's possible the various circuitry has been optimised for DVD resolution (which Mode 0 is) in some way?

I'll agree with this - I recently went back to a "normal" tivo drive for testing, and the mode 0 difference on my LCD (panasonic viera 37") is much more marked than you'd expect.
